United and Arsenal to draw in Super Sunday clash

The opening weekend of the Premier League 2025-26 season is here with some stunning fixtures to kick us off, starting with champions Liverpool at home to Bournemouth.

Saturday takes us to Aston Villa with Newcastle paying a visit in a meeting of two of last season's best sides. We have three 3pm kick-offs including Tottenham's first competitive home game under Thomas Frank before the day finishes with title hopefuls Manchester City at Wolves.

Sunday brings three games culminating in a clash between Manchester United and Arsenal, always a standout in any Premier League season. We finish with newly promoted Leeds at home to Everton on Monday night. What a weekend!

And we have a Premier League legend to predict all the games in the form of Alan Shearer.

Alan on the Opening Weekend: The players will be raring to go

For players it's a brilliant feeling - your first match - after a long old week. You'll have trained five weeks for this opening weekend.

As a player, I was desperately hoping to get off to a good start and a good start is obviously a win, but you want to get on the scoresheet as well. Goals give you belief and confidence.

All the new signings will be wanting to make a mark and have many positive things said about them over the weekend.

You're just really excited because all the hard work of pre-season, it's a long old slog, to get here and free of injuries. You're just so excited to get out and play.

I remember scoring twice on the opening day for Blackburn, and once for Southampton against Spurs. Newcastle wasn't so great but I scored three or four days later so I have decent memories of the opening day as a player.

Liverpool v Bournemouth - Friday 20:00, Live on Sky Sports

Bournemouth have lost Zabarnyi, Kerkez and Huijsen. That's a big ask to fill for any club when all of them played on a regular basis last year. I know Liverpool were disappointing in the Community Shield but I'd guess Anfield will be rocking again so I'll go for a home win.

Prediction: Liverpool win

Aston Villa v Newcastle - Saturday 12:30, Live on TNT

It's a tough start for Newcastle. I think they could've done without all the off-field talk. It's ongoing every day and it will be this week leading up to the game but in the grand scheme of things, they still have a good team. They have one of, if not the best midfield in the country. I'll say a draw.

I'd be amazed if we saw Alexander Isak in a Newcastle shirt on Saturday and I don't think anyone's expecting that.

Alan's Prediction: Draw

Tottenham v Burnley - Saturday 15:00

Spurs at home. Thomas Frank's first game. Burnley will go there and try to soak up pressure. Home win. Burnley will try to play how they did in the Championship, but doing it there and in the Premier League are two different things. They were unbelievable defensively last season but I don't see that being successful for them this season.

Alan's Prediction: Spurs win

Brighton v Fulham - Saturday 15:00

Brighton have got their own unwanted transfer with Carlos Baleba and Man United but I'd still think they have enough to beat Fulham. I'll go for a home win.

Alan's Prediction: Brighton win

Sunderland v West Ham - Saturday 15:00

It's a great opportunity for Sunderland to get off to a good start. It'll be a brilliant atmosphere at the Stadium of Light. Two teams I don't really see in the top-half this season. I'll give each of them a point to start the season with which wouldn't be a bad start for both.

Alan's Prediction: Draw

Wolves v Man City - Saturday 17:30, Live on Sky Sports

Wolves have lost a couple of big-hitters and I think Man City will go there and take the points.

Alan's Prediction: Man City win

Nottingham Forest v Brentford - Saturday 14:00, Live on Sky Sports

I'd go for a home win because of the uncertainty at Brentford about Wissa and also Mbuemo has gone.

Alan's Prediction: Forest win

Chelsea v Crystal Palace - Saturday 14:00, Live on Sky Sports

It's always good to get into competitive mode and Crystal Palace have done that already, albeit they went to penalties in the Community Shield, so they'll be in better condition than Chelsea possibly. But I think Chelsea being at home, with the players they've signed, London Derby... I'm tempted to go for a draw here.

Liam Delap has gone to a club where he knows he'll be under pressure. When he does play, he'll know he has to perform and score goals. Whether he'll be first-choice or not, we'll have to wait and see because I think Joao Pedro will score a few and he's a right good player.

Alan's Prediction: Draw

Man Utd v Arsenal - Saturday 16:30, Live on Sky Sports

It's wonderful for us to sit down on Sunday and watch two giants go head to head so early in the season. Tough one to call so I'll go for a draw.

There's always a surprise result on the opening weekend. I don't know what a surprise result would be in this game. It's so tough to call with so many interesting moving parts. Gyokores on one side, Sesko on the other.

Amorim and Gyokores know each other really well. Zubimendi may free up Declan Rice more, Man United have done really well in forward positions. It's a tough one to call so early in the season. There'll be needle at Old Trafford.

Alan's Prediction: Draw

Leeds v Everton - Monday 20:00, Live on Sky Sports

Both teams will be watching the other games, desperate to get going. Elland Road will be rocking back in the Premier League and I'm going to go for a draw here too.

Alan's Prediction: Draw
