Timeform Weekend Review: Royal Ascot clues abound

Movers in ante-post markets for Wokingham, Golden Jubilee and Kings Stand Stakes after weekend action.

One of the quieter weekends of the summer in terms of quality saw Main Aim confirm himself a colt of serious ability, handling a step back up in trip and grade to take the Group 3 Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock by a comfortable two lengths from Beacon Lodge. The Sir Michael Stoute trained four-year-old now looks likely to head to Royal Ascot and the Golden Jubilee Stakes, for which he trades [9.2] on Betfair, could be the preferred option.

Earlier on the card Luca Cumani's Greek import Ialysos made a winning debut on his first British start in the J.W. Lees Achilles Stakes. Nicknamed the 'Greek Freak' he is an interesting entry at Royal Ascot in both the Golden Jubilee (currently [18.0] on Betfair) and the King's Stand Stakes ([25.0]) , though he will need to improve plenty to trouble the likely principles in either of those races.

William Haggas is in sparkling form at the moment and his gelding High Standing was victorious in the Totescoop6 Handicap at Goodwood. The success propelled him to the head of the market for the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and this certainly looked to have been the perfect preparation for that race.

The card at York on Saturday looked fairly modest by their high standards, but the sportingbet.com Sprint did provide trainer Allan Dickman with his biggest career win to date as Ishetoo won by a neck under Jamie Kyne. Also at York, the remarkable Caracciola won the mile-and-three-quarter Listed race, the Nicky Henderson trained 12-year-old beating Friston Forest by a short head to become the oldest winner of a Listed Flat race in Britain.
