The effortless victory of Sariska in the Irish Oaks on Sunday has formed part of a particularly good run of success in the last week for Michael Bell's Fitzroy House stable, which saw five successive winners. Having started the run with Britannia third Secret Society on Saturday, who landed a competitive Class 2 handicap at Ascot, Bell completed a double at the course with two-year-old Soul Heaven, before the Hayley Turner-ridden Lombok won at Nottingham. Sariska provided the fourth leg of the winning streak with her majestic win at the Curragh, before two-year-old Professor John broke his maiden at Bath on Tuesday. Bell has plenty to look forward to with the improving Sariska, who looks set to take on the colts in the Arc later in the year, after running in the Yorkshire Oaks.
Having had a poor season by their own high standards, Godolphin and Saeed Bin Suroor have finally had something to shout about in the past couple of weeks, as their horses continued a recurring theme of finding form as the British turf season progresses. From the start of July, the stable has been in flying form having had twelve winners from thirty-two runners at a strike-rate of 32%, highlighted by a particularly fruitful July meeting. They had three winners at the meeting, including the St Leger-bound Kite Wood in the listed Bahrain Trophy, while they were narrowly denied a Group 2 success in the Princess of Wales's Stakes with Schiaparelli. A particular positive for the stable is the success of their juveniles this month, with six individual winners already, and all six look capable of going on to better things.
Ed McMahon is recognised for his association with owner John Fretwell and the pair have done particularly well with two-year-olds in the past. McMahon is having a decent run at present, having had six winners from his last eighteen runners, at a strike-rate of 33%, with half of those winners coming from the juvenile ranks.
