Alan Dudman Racing Tips

Alan Dudman looks ahead to this weekend's ITV Racing action at Newcastle where he has found three antepost tips on the Betfair Sportsbook including a double figure odds play in the Northumberland Plate...

Saturday, 14:10, Newcastle, Chipchase Stakes Tip: Back Royal Bay Cen EW @ 16/117.00

Newcastle and York provide the domestic action for the ITV cameras on Saturday.

And it's to Newcastle we go with this week's bets on what should be a big day in the sun with the Pitmens' Derby. Four race are priced up on the Betfair Sportsbook for the action in the north-east as well as two on the Knavesmire. There is also the added bonus of the Irish Derby to look forward to this Sunday too.

On with the home match.

A tricky renewal of this year's Chipchase Stakes with a distinct lack of a three-year-old from the UK and two former winners.

The 2023 Chipchase victor Tiber Flow holds an entry - and is the 4/15.00 joint-favourite on the Sportsbook, plus there's Diligent Harry (winner last year) as a 5/16.00 poke. There are zero secrets at the top of the betting.

Symbol Of Honour for Charlie Appleby is also prominent in the betting at 4/15.00, but hasn't been seen since Meydan in February, and while a Group 2 winner of the Sandy Lane at Haydock last term, he's a very risky prospect at the top of the market.

There's an each-way bet that might be worth striking at 16s here with Johnny Murtagh's Royal Bay Cen.

She's the only three-year-old in the race entered, and the last three-year-old successful in the Chipchase was Sense Of Duty for William Haggas.

I would bracket Murtagh's sprinter as a potential improver. Royal Bay Cen gagged up at Cork, admittedly in brutal ground conditions at the start of the Flat season, but was a winner by nine wickets in the Listed Polonia Stakes and the way she breezed through the gap with 2f to go was impressive.

Ben Coen, who rode her, said she got there too soon!

A subsequent run in the Group 3 Lacken Stakes was a fair one, a race where she was ridden more prominently and acquitted herself well considering she was trapped on the wing a little down the centre of the track. Hardly anything separated the first four with Havana Anna (rated 113) winning.

I tend to be positive about Cork sprinting form and finishing off so well in testing ground leads to the 6f at Newcastle suiting, and as a New Bay, the sire has a 14% win record and 38% placed at Newcastle from 120 runners at all distances, but the numbers improve to 23% win and 39% over 6f.

At 16/117.00 she just looks a little too big.

Saturday, 15:15, Newcastle, Northumberland Plate Handicap Tip: Back Team Player EW @ 12/113.00

The Plate and Vase (consolation) races are two that were extremely well-stocked in terms of entries as of Tuesday. At the top of the Plate betting we have a Wathnan horse who recently appeared at Royal Ascot for the big one itself.

Will we get a Trueshan type of performance? Remember the great stayer who posted a tremednous weight carrying display, a performance dubbed the "greatest Flat win ever". Yes, it sure beat Secretariat.

Valiancy ran in the Copper Horse and was beaten 4L by Alan King's Daquiri Bay - and it's most unlike William Haggas to back them up with another run in such a short space of time.

He ran in snatches at Ascot over 1m6f and should get the trip, but it's too soon for me to consider a bet.

Prydwen, Spinning Wheel and Beylerbeyi are all important entries as they are the trio that hold three-figure ratings and will be there to keep the weights down for the others.

Team Player at [12/1] strikes me as a runner, a stayer rated in the 90s so won't have an issue getting in and I thought ran a cracker in the Chester Cup last time from a less than favourable draw, and he was the youngest of those in the first five.

He's a four-year-old with winning form at the track too - landing a Class 3 Handicap over course and distance in the winter.

Team Player was tackling the 2m for the first time and travelled nicely and stayed well off a finishing speed of 105% - and the front two were a long way clear. He isn't short of pace for a stayer and was quick enough to score over a shorter trip at Musselburgh on his subsequent start.

He's a stayer on the up and unexposed and at 12/113.00, I hope we can get a good draw.

Saturday, Newcastle, 15:45, JenningsBet Over 200 Shops Nationwide Handicap Tip: Back Corolla Point @ 6/17.00

I have put up Corolla Point for Saturday and the 6f Handicap at 15:45, but he also holds an entry for the Friday.

Obviously with no prices to go on for one race, what I can highlight is that as a sprinter in a big field over 6f he handled York well enough last time and outran his position as he started more down the centre of the track as the winner, Jakajaro flew home solo stands' side.

He posted the quickest 3f time sectional at a rapid 10.79, and my take on that was most of raing was done early to get a position and he ended up more towards the far side group.

As a four-year-old he's unexposed with just seven runs, and he already has winning form at Hamilton, a stiff 5f, which will suit the Newcastle contours.

He is another trying the All-Weather for the first time, and by sire Blue Point, his stock are 12% win and 36% placed from all runners on the Newcastle wax-based surface.
