Timeform reflect on the E.B.F. / Aylsham Slurry Services Maiden Stakes which took place at Yarmouth on Tuesday October 27.
Yarmouth's last meeting of the year included three potentially informative maidens, the second of which featured several interesting long-term prospects. The winner, London Stripe, scored in spite of the drop in trip and the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt can be expected to improve significantly once stepped back up in distance and faced with handicaps next year.
The runner-up, Mass Rally, set a fair level of form and again suggested he is more than up to winning a similar race in time. The newcomers in fourth and fifth, however, shaped with the most promise, both having gone off relatively unfancied in the betting. Luca Cumani's Lileo was clearly restricted by greenness and was given a most considerate and educational ride by his jockey. The son of Galileo has a good staying pedigree but is likely to need time to really fulfil his potential. He looks a typical handicap project for his astute handler.
James Fanshawe has had a torrid time for the most part of this season but is finishing the year with a flourish, and his newcomer, Bondage, did well to finish fifth having shown clear signs of inexperience once asked to make up ground from the rear. He is bred to thrive over trips in excess of one mile and shapes as another horse to take out the race.
