Battlefield's victory at Ludlow may have been his second from two starts this season, but he seems unlikely to make it a hat-trick. He didn't improve off a 9 lb higher mark when beating Colliers Court, who set a strong pace, a neck in the 13-runner handicap chase, making trademark mistakes and just getting the best of the second close home having hampered that one in the latter stages. Its very much odds-against that his trainer will be able to coax a third win out of him next time.

Carthalawn finished second in the Grade 2 Red Mills Chase at Gowran on Saturday, and although that was a creditable effort, not for the first time his jumping left plenty to be desired, going low and out to the right numerous times and doing well to stay on his feet six fences from home. It would come as no surprise were he to be returned to hurdling for his next outing.

Alan King's Black Jacari was well backed in the opening juvenile hurdle at Hereford on Sunday but once again proved expensive to follow and looks one to avoid on the back of a disappointing return to juvenile company, essentially not looking to be putting it all in as he made heavy weather of things in mid-division from some way out, a couple of sticky jumps also not helping. With the fitting of headgear having little effect on his last three starts, Black Jacari is one to treat with caution.
