Sol Campbell left Portsmouth on a free transfer at the end of last season.
Former Portsmouth and England defender Sol Campell is on his way to Notts County and Sylvain Distin may be on his way out of Fratton Park too...
Sven Goran Eriksson looks to have completed his most high profile signing yet by getting Sol Campbell to agree to join Notts County. The League Two table-toppers have announced a press conference for this afternoon where they are expected to unveil the former Arsenal, Tottenham and Portsmouth star as their latest recruit.
Campbell has been capped 73 times by England and played numerous times under Eriksson, which suggests that the Notts County Director of Football's contacts in the game are beginning to pay off. They have already recruited the likes of Lee Hughes and Luke Rodgers as well as former Shrewsbury captain Ben Davies. They have nine points so far from a possible 12 and are the [2.4] favourites on Betfair to win the division.
If Notts are very much on the way up, Campbell's previous club Portsmouth are very much on the way down. They have no points from three Premier League matches and are the [1.88] favourites for the drop. To make matters worse, Aston Villa have made a bid for Campbell's former defensive partner Sylvain Distin which due to their financial woes, Portsmouth may be forced to accept.
