Best is yet to come says new Portsmouth signing Crouch

The England man believes he can strike up a devastating partnership with Jermaine Defoe as Redknapp hails Portsmouth progress

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp believes the signing of Peter Crouch is a coup for the club and a signal of their ambitions.

As Crouch was unveiled as a Portsmouth career after completing what is said to be an 11 million pound move from Liverpool, Redknapp said:

"I'm delighted to have Peter here. To bring him back is a real coup for the club and shows how far we have come in the last two years and how far we are looking to go."

The England striker scored 18 goals in 37 games for Portsmouth in his previous stint at the club between 2001-2002. He has since has spells at Aston Villa and Southampton as well as three years at Liverpool.

He said: "I'm very pleased to come back. I have the best years of my career to come and they will be here at Portsmouth."

Crouch admitted that the prospect of regular first team football was a major factor in his decision to leave Liverpool and said he is delighted to joining the formidable squad Redknapp has assembled on the South Coast.

He said: "The manager has built a good side here and he gets the best out of me so I am looking forward to it."

Crouch also said he is looking forward to linking up with his England team-mate Jermaine Defoe:

"Our goal scoring record for England together is good and if we play together we will click straight away."
