Donald Trump is 3/1 to be America's next president after the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Monday.

The former-president is eligible to run again because he served only one term which began in 2017 and ended after he lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

Trump remains bitter at the defeat and, at even odds to win the Republican nomination, is still thought to be in the running for 2024, even as a criminal investigation by the US justice department into his affairs gathers pace.

It's Drama-a-Lago but Trump holds up in betting

The raid at Mar-a-Lago came as investigators stepped up their attemtps to examine the former president's potentially unlawful removal and destruction of White House records after he left office. These include classified documents.

It was a dramatic moment and further proof that investigators are closing in on Trump.

That could have serious implications for his bid to run again for the presidency but so far the markets are holding firm in his favour.

Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, is close behind Trump at 15/8 in Republican nominee market.

He is the same price as Trump - 3/1 - in the next president market. On Tuesday, DeSantis sprang to Trump's defence, calling the raid a "weaponization of federal agencies."

The incumbent, President Biden, is 11/2 to win a second term in 2024, while vice president Kamala Harris is 12/1.

Biden is 9/4 to be the Democratic nominee, even amid concerns that, at 79, he is too old to contemplate a second gruelling presidential campaign and a further four years in office.

Harris is 4/1 while California governor Gavin Newsom is 5/1 and Pete Buttigeig, who ran in 2020, is 8/1.
