Today's Racing News: Lord North out, but Dettori's other six come crashing in at Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot day two gets underway at 14:30.

It's day two at Royal Ascot, and Daryl Carter takes a look at the big market movers, gives runner by runner comments, and heads to Chelmsford for the race of the day.

"Let's not get carried away, and this could be the bookmakers hedging their bets against multiples, especially given Dettori left layers reeling on this day in 2019 when he won the first four races."

Royal Ascot continues, but if you have had a rough time of things already, there is no harm in looking elsewhere for that Wednesday cash. Uttoxeter, Hamilton, Chelmsford, Ripon, Wexford and Navan all host highly competitive cards for punters to get stuck into.

Money Talk - Royal Ascot special

Plenty of movement in the overnight markets on the Betfair Sportsbook as punters welcome in day two of the Royal Ascot meeting.

There has been some support for several Frankie Dettori horses in the last week, with his mounts odds shortening from their antepost prices.

The popular jockey has six rides now Lord North has come out this morning, and here is how they are faring in the market.

14:30 - Artos - 11/1 into 6/1
15:05 - Stowell 10/1 into 5/1
15:40 - Indie Angel 16/1 into 8/1
17:00 - Magical Morning 9/1 into 5/1
17:35 - Ruthin 9/4 into 2/1
18:10 - Mostly 10/1 into 9/2

The latest seven-fold accumulator odds are 131756.63/1

Let's not get carried away, and this could be the bookmakers hedging their bets against multiples, especially given Dettori left layers reeling on this day in 2019 when he won the first four races. He was only narrowly denied the Britannia in the fifth, saving them back from a multi-million-pound brink.

Will history repeat itself? Or will they drift out?

Ascot market moves away from Dettori

14:30 - Mas Poda 33/1 into 16/1
17:00 - Real World 40/1 into 22/1
17:35 - Armor 20/1 into 11/1

Runner by runner comments - Duke Of Cambridge Stakes

Lady Bowthorpe - Saddles a penalty but career-best by some way when chasing home Palace Pier in the Lockinge, needs to back that up now. Low draw a concern?

Queen Power - Saddles a penalty, head second to Lady Bowthorpe on return and bettered that form when a runaway winner at York. Drop back in trip not an obvious plus, third in this race last year but may have more to come yet.

Double Or Bubble - Three for four in her short career, highly progressive, and takes a big jump in grade but has earned her chance. The low draw may be a concern.

Indie Angel - Fourth behind Lady Bowthorpe and Queen Power at Newmarket and needs more on the balance of her form, but she leaves the impression there is more to come. Dettori rides.

Champers Elysees - Group One winner at three and top-class form, not brought that to the table in two starts this term. Return to quicker ground a big plus.

Lavenders Blue - Beaten half a length by Lady Bowthorpe and Queen Power at Newmarket, cheek-pieces now need to bring out further improvement.

Onassis - Sandringham winner first time out at this meeting last season, unexposed over 1m but needs a career-best today.

Parent's Prayer - No match for Champers Elysees at Gowran last term but career-best when granted a soft lead at Epsom latest. There could be more to come, for all this is deeper.

Valeria Messalina - Well held by Champers Elysees at Leopardstown last term, but the form of her Goodwood second behind One Master would put her right in the mix. May be best over 7f?

Agincourt - Second in this race last year, excellent reappearance run at Goodwood under a big weight and looks primed for a big effort.

Fooraat - Very lightly raced and could take a big step forward now race fit, but needs to.

Posted - Fifth in this race last year and well behind the principles at Newmarket on return. She leaves you with the impression that she has a big one in her, though, and not to be underestimated.

Love winning Oaks 1280x720.jpg

Potential superstar Love takes on the boys for her return to action in today's feature race the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, but Lord North is a non-runner.

Race of the day

Ascot is in full view, so let's head out to Chelmsford for their 19:23 Ministry Of Sound Classical 21st August Handicap.

Margub flopped at Goodwood on his latest start, but there seems to be a valid excuse for that run with the soft ground unsuitable, so he is entitled to bounce back.

He now returns to the all-weather surface for which his record is four for eight and two for four over course and distance, and there is little reason why he won't go well; for all, he doesn't fill you with confidence.

Pistoletto is effectively three pounds lower than when an excellent third at Goodwood behind a rapid improver last time, and he shapes as though he is edging back to his useful two-year-old form.

His very close fifth here on his penultimate start after being slowly away will see him in with a big shout if breaking on terms. His turn could be very near.

Amber Island has form figures of one and two at this venue and put in a good shift on Good Friday at Lingfield to chase home Lord Of The Lodge in a 0-105. That's about the best piece of recent form on offer in this race, and despite being slightly below par on turf last time, the return to this venue and 7f is a big positive.

She looks good value to continue her improvement at a double-figure price.

Final Word

I mentioned yesterday I was hoping that the punting at Royal Ascot would start well to give a confidence booster and that it did with Berkshire Shadow winning the Coventry Stakes.

It was the only winner on the day for me, but I'd take a 16/1 shot winning from four or five bets every day of the week.

Here's hoping for more luck today! I am quietly confident on Stunning Beauty in the finale and Desert Dreamer in the opener, but one winner will be enough to keep the head above water.

Until tomorrow, be lucky.
