The 2000 Guineas is a horse race on the flat deemed to be one of the five English Classics. It has Group One classification.

It is available for three-year-old colts and fillies and takes place annually at Newmarket racecourse in late April or early May over the trip of one mile on the Rowley Mile.
The 2000 Guineas is the first Classic on the flat calendar. It takes place ahead of the 1000 Guineas, Oaks, Derby and St Leger. If any horse is capable of winning the 2000 Guineas, Derby and St Leger they are deemed to have completed the Triple Crown. The last runner to do just that was Nijinsky in 1970. Camelot also nearly matched that record in 2012 as he scored in the first two legs of that treble, before finishing second in the St Leger at Doncaster over the longer trip of 1m6f.
In 1809, the first ever 2000 Guineas was held. It was established by the Jockey Club and Sir Charles Bunbury was influential in helping it get up and running. He had earlier co-founded the Derby, which is held at Epsom racecourse. It got its name from the prize on offer for winning connections.
Wizard was successful in the inaugural running. He was ridden by jockey Bill Clift and trained by Tom Perren.
The most successful jockey in the history of the 2000 Guineas has been James Robinson. He rode nine horses to victory in the 1m contest. His first win came on board Enamel in 1825, while his ninth win arrived 23 years later with Flatcatcher in 1848.
Trainer John Scott was also prosperous in the race in the 19th century. He racked up seven winners during that period. Meteor kick started his tally in 1842, while 20 years later, The Marquis gave him his seventh victory.
In terms of owners, Sue Magnier has owned seven horses that have gone on to win the English Classic. Her success has come more recently as her colours were carried to victory by Entrepreneur in 1997. King of Kings, Rock of Gibraltar, Footstepsinthesand, George Washington, Henrythenavigator and Camelot have also given her glory in the Group One.
Mister Baileys win in 1994 is still the fastest clock in the one mile contest. He came home in front in 1m 35. 08s, while the widest winning margin since 1900 went to Tudor Minstrel in 1947 in an eight lengths success.
