15:34, Leicester - Barak Warrior can improve further

Barak Warrior started at big prices on his first three starts, turned out quickly each time and leaving the impression he was being brought along with handicaps in mind.

He was freshened up after his qualifying run, undergoing a gelding operation also in that time, and was duly much shorter in the betting when opening his account at Bath on his handicap debut last month.

The step up to a mile and a half and that procedure seemingly were the catalyst for a much improved display, proving strong at the finish, and that form is working out very well, the runner-up winning three times since, while the fourth won next time too.

Barak Warrior is 7lb higher in the weights now, but that looks perfectly fair for one who is open to further improvement.

16:00, Curragh - Celeron the one in Phoenix

Celeron is bred to be sharp, but he was easy to back on his debut over this course and distance, though that didn't stop him making a winning start.

The time of that race was good and, even though he knew his job first time up, he readily asserted in the closing stages.

He was drawn on the wrong side in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot next time, so that can be overlooked, and he proved himself potentially smart when winning the Railway Stakes back over this course and distance three weeks ago.

Celeron was much too good for the reopposing Tribeca on that occasion, suited by the return to more prominent racing tactics, and that form was on par if not better than what Sun Goddess has achieved. Connections have big aspirations for him and he has the potential to improver further still.

17:01, Chepstow - Crimson Road ready to win again

Crimson Road managed to win a couple of times for Simon & Ed Crisford as a three-year-old, but he didn't show much for Susan Corbett last season.

As a result, he had fallen down the weights, and he seems to have been invigorated  by a change of scenery, building on recent promise for this yard when resuming winning ways at Chepstow last month.

That was a comfortable success, travelling well and just pushed out to maintain his advantage in the closing stages, and a subsequent 3lb rise in the weights almost certainly underestimates him - he's 3lb clear on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.
