Curacao
Profile
With a population of just 150,000, the Caribbean island Curacao is the smallest country ever to qualify for a World Cup. Their squad is built on Dutch-Antillean players who have made careers in European professional football, which gives them more technical quality than their size suggests. However, the step up in level will be enormous.
How They Qualified
Curaçao came through the CONCACAF qualification route, navigating multiple rounds to secure a historic first-ever World Cup place. It is a landmark achievement for a tiny nation and a reward for years of steady development under the Dutch football model.
The Manager
Dick Advocaat, 78, resigned from his position in February 2026 due to family health concerns but returned to the dugout after his replacement Fred Rutten stepped down last month. This makes Advocaat the oldest manager in World Cup history. A highly experienced Dutch coach who has managed the Netherlands national team and major European clubs, Advocaat brings composure and structure.
The Squad
Captained by Leandro Bacuna alongside veteran goalkeeper Eloy Room, the squad has a solid core of European-based professionals. Tahith Chong (Sheffield United), Shurandy Sambo (Burnley), and Sontje Hansen (Middlesbrough) are the recognisable names. Jürgen Locadia and Gervane Kastaneer lead the line. A wellorganised group, but a shortage of world-class quality from back to front.
Key Man
Juninho Bacuna, the midfielder is Curacao's most complete player, capable of carrying the ball, delivering at set-pieces, and contributing goals. If they are to have any positive moments at this tournament, he will almost certainly be the one making them happen.
One to Watch / Rising Star
Chong, the 25-year-old Sheffield United winger is direct, quick and can beat a man. He is their most dangerous outlet on the counter-attack and the player most capable of producing a moment of quality against higher-ranked opposition.
Tournament Prospects
In Group E, Curacao will play Germany, Ecuador, and Ivory Coast, three teams that are all better than them. Curacao will defend deep, try to be hard to break down, and give everything. But the quality gap is real. Bottom of the group is the most likely outcome, and exiting without a win is the realistic expectation. The achievement is being here.
Ecuador
Profile
Ecuador are one of South America's most exciting teams heading into 2026. Ranked 23rd by FIFA, they have quietly built a golden generation of players scattered across Europe's elite clubs. After a disappointing group exit at Qatar 2022, they arrive here transformed, confident, and with genuine ambitions of a deep run.
How They Qualified
Ecuador finished second in CONMEBOL qualifying, behind only Argentina, booking their place with two rounds to spare. Under manager Sebastián Beccacece they lost just once in 18 qualifying matches -- a remarkable record that underlines how far this squad has come.
The Manager
Beccacece, 44, took charge in August 2024 and immediately lifted Ecuador to another level. The Argentine coach is known for high-intensity pressing, fluid positional play, and getting the best out of technically gifted players. In under two years he has turned Ecuador into the most coherent team in CONMEBOL.
The Squad
The talent pool is elite. Centre-backs Willian Pacho (PSG, Champions League winner) and Piero Hincapié (Arsenal) are world-class defenders. Moisés Caicedo (Chelsea) is one of the best midfielders in the tournament. Pervis Estupiñán (AC Milan) is an attacking left-back and set-piece specialist. Captain Enner Valencia (92 caps, 43 goals) leads the attack, and 18-year-old Kendry Páez provides the creative spark.
Key Man
Moisés Caicedo -- the Chelsea midfielder is Ecuador's heartbeat. His ability to win possession, cover ground, and drive play forward makes him arguably the best central midfielder at this entire tournament. Opposition teams will be planning around him first.
One to Watch / Rising Star
Kendry Páez -- at just 18, the Independiente del Valle playmaker is one of the most exciting teenagers in world football. His direct dribbling, free-kick delivery, and composure beyond his years could genuinely be a tournament highlight. Keep a close eye on him.
Tournament Prospects
Ecuador are legitimate contenders to progress from Group E and push into the latter stages. A second-place finish behind Germany in the group is the most likely scenario, with Côte d'Ivoire and Curaçao the beatable opponents. Their resilient defence, worldclass midfield, and experienced captain give them a platform to reach the quarterfinals and perhaps even go beyond.
Germany
Profile
Since winning the World Cup in Brazil 12 years ago, Germany have been knocked out at the Group stage of consecutive World Cup tournaments. It was their miserable fate in Russia in 2018 and again in Qatar in 2022. This time they must do better. There were signs at Euro 2024, which they hosted, that Germany were getting their act together before a quarter-final exit against eventual winners Spain.
How they Qualified
After an early scare in a 2-0 defeat to Slovakia, Germany recovered to win their next five games and top the group. After a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland following the Slovakia defeat, Julian Nagelsmann's side scored 13 goals without reply, including a 6-0 victory over Slovakia.
The Manager
Nagelsmann is leading Germany for the second time in a major tournament. The first was a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign on home turf where they came unstuck against eventual champions Spain in the quarter-finals. A tactically flexible manager, his success at club level has yet to translate to international football, however in recent friendlies and the back end of the qualifying campaign, Germany started to produce the attacking football fans expect.
The Squad
A handful of injury concerns, as well as uncertainty over the goalkeeping position has threatened to disrupt Germany's WC build up. Manuel Neuer has regained the number one spot, while the back four has a settled look. Aleksandar Pavlovic is expected to line up in midfield alongside Felix Nmecha, while Florian Wirtz, Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz make up the attack, although Newcastle's Nick Woltemade was the top scorer in qualifying.
Key Man
Florian Wirtz - despite a tough introduction to the Premier League, the creative playmaker improved his form throughout the second half of the season, ending with five goals and three assists. A key player for Germany, his tireless style is imperative to the attacking football Germany are expected to play, leading a press from the front.
One to Watch
Pavlovic has established himself as a key member of both Bayern Munich and Germany's midfield. Impressing in the Champions League before Bayern were knocked out by PSG, his box to box presence will give Germany energy in midfield. A metronomical style of play on the ball will help Germany control games, and much like his role at Bayern, he will be key in dictating the tempo and providing a solid base to get the most out of their attacking talents.
Tournament Prospects
Germany will be looking to qualify from their group as winners, and whilst they go in as heavy favourites to do so, Ecuador do offer tough competition. If qualifying as winners, they'll meet a third placed team, before a potential match up with France in the Last 16. It's currently tough to see a route past France and expectations are that this will be as far as Germany go.
Ivory Coast
Profile
The Ivory Coast are one of Africa's strongest footballing nations. After winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, confidence has grown significantly. Combining experienced European-based stars with emerging young talent, Ivory Coast enter the 2026 World Cup aiming to re-establish themselves on the global stage after missing the last two World Cups.
How they Qualified
Ivory Coast came through the African qualification campaign with impressive consistency. Their strong defence and clinical attack helped them top their qualifying group. Key home victories and disciplined away performances highlighted a side that looked far more mature and tactically organized than in previous campaigns.
The Manager
Emerse Fae guided his country to AFCON success. Initially appointed in an interim role during the tournament, Fae impressed with his calm leadership, tactical flexibility, and united dressing room. He favours a compact but aggressive style, allowing his attacking players freedom while maintaining defensive structure. He mainly played with 4-3-3 formation, having a single pivot in the midfield with two traditional box-to-box midfielders.
The Squad
Ivory Coast possesses one of the deepest squads in African football. Defensively, they boast physical centre-backs (Evan Ndicka and Odilon Kossounou) and energetic fullbacks (Guela Doue and Ghislan Konan). Midfield is built around power (Ibrahim Sangare) and ball progression (Franck Kessie), while the attack features Amad Diallo, Yan Diomande, Simon Adingra, and Evan Ndicka..
Key Man
Kessié is the heartbeat of this Ivory Coast side. The experienced midfielder brings leadership, composure, defensive stability, and an eye for important goals. His ability to control the tempo of matches while contributing physically on both ends of the pitch makes him indispensable.
One to Watch
Diomande is one of the most exciting young prospects emerging from Ivory Coast football. The talented attacker has attracted attention for his technical ability, confidence in one-versus-one situations, and sharp movement in the final third. He had a great season in Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists.
Tournament Prospects
Ivory Coast enter the World Cup as a dangerous outsider, capable of reaching the knockout stages. If they maintain defensive discipline and convert chances, the Elephants could surprise bigger nations.
World Cup Tip: How to bet Group E
Curacao Exact Points in Group - 0 points - 8/151.53
Germany should win the group but the problem with that is it sets them up for a potential meeting with France in the last 16. So instead of looking at Germany, let's build our bet from the bottom up in this group. Curacao are the heaviest underdogs in Group E and should be treated as such. The value is almost entirely in backing against them: Germany, Ecuador, and Ivory Coast to win their respective matches are all solid selections. Curacao to finish bottom of Group E is a leg for any group stage accumulator but very short price at 1.06 so if looking to get onside with the sentiment on their chances then Curacao to get 0 points seems like a more appealing price point.
To Reach Round of 16 - Ivory Coast - 6/42.50
Ivory Coast could represent good value to reach the Round of 16 at odds of ~2.5. With a squad packed with athleticism, attacking quality, and recent tournament-winning experience after their AFCON triumph in 2023, the Elephants have the tools to progress beyond the group stage and compete in the knockout rounds. Their ability to defend compactly while threatening teams in transition makes them a dangerous opponent in knock out matches, particularly against possession-heavy sides.
Player to score 2 or more goals - Enner Valencia - 5/61.84
Enner Valencia is Ecuador's all-time top goalscorer. He has previously score 3 goals at separate World Cups (2014 and 2022) including a penalty against Qatar. HE should be on penalty duty this time and scored more goals (6) than any other Ecuador player in World Cup qualifying. So despite his age he is still a key source of goals for Ecuador. For him to score 2 or more goals at this tournament looks like a solid selection if Ecuador perform as expected.
The treble above pays around 10/34.33 and if then you want to add Germany to reach the last 16 then as well it bumps it about another tick to more than 4/15.00 which is a nice interest four-fold for the participants in group E.
