England Squad World Cup 2026 Latest: Foden drifts as Tuchel says selection "not a guarantee"

The Betfair Sportsbook price on Phil Foden being selected for England's World Cup squad drifted as manager Thomas Tuchel said the Man City's forward's place was "not a guarantee". 

The 25-year-old failed to make an impact in the Wembley friendlies against Uruguay and Japan which England drew 1-1 and lost 0-1 respectively. He has lost his place in City's starting line-up and his involvement in this summer's tournament is in jeopardy. 

Foden has drifted to 1/31.33 from 1/151.07 in a sign that Betfair punters believe the City man could in line for World Cup heartbreak.  

Meanwhile, there are promising signs for four players who have shortened in the betting on who will make Tuchel's World Cup squad.

Marcus Rashford is in to 1/91.11 while his former-Man Utd team-mate is also looking more likely to be on the plane at 1/41.25.

Arsenal defender Ben White shortened to 17/102.70 from 7/24.50 while Everton's James Garner looks more likely to be among the midfielders in the squad after shortening from 13/53.60 to 17/102.70.

Friday 20 March - Tuchel picks uncapped players in 35-man England squad

Thomas Tuchel is keeping his options open for England's World Cup squad after he picked a bumper 35-man group for the friendlies against Uruguay and Japan on 27 and 31 March respectively.

Uncapped players were among those to get the call up, including Everton midfielder James Garner and Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele, while Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo and Lewis Hall returned to the squad.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goalscoring form for Leeds saw the forward recalled and he is 21/103.10 to go to the World Cup as one of Harry Kane's understudies.

There was no place for Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, although he is 8/111.73 to be on the plane to North America this summer.  

Ollie Watkins is another who misses out on this squad but is still odds-on - at 4/91.44 - to make the final cut.

They are 6/17.00 second favourites in the outright winner market behind European champions Spain 9/25.50. Tuchel was brought in to end England's 60 year wait for a World Cup win and, although he recently signed a contract extension to 2028, that is still his aim.
