Valencia were founded in 1919 and are the third most supported club in Spain, after Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Los Che have called the Mestella home since 1923. The 55,000-capacity stadium, the fifth largest in Spain, is known for its steep terracing which creates an intimidating atmosphere. The club aren't actually supposed to be playing here; they should be at their new home, the Nou Mestella. The 75,000-seater stadium was earmarked to open in time for the 2009-2010 season, but due to the financial crisis in 2007 and 2008, work on the stadium grinded to a halt. To this day the stadium remains just half-finished.
In terms of success and glory, it's fair to say that Valencia have enjoyed their fair share. The club have six La Liga titles and seven Copa del Reys adorning their trophy room, whilst in Europe they have won three UEFA Cups (Europa Leagues) and have finished runners-up in the Champions League twice.
Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is the club's most successful manager. The Spaniard led the club to two La Liga titles (2001-2002 and 2003-2004) and he also led the club to their third UEFA Cup, when his side beat Marseille 2-0 in the 2004 final.
Benitez was at the Mestella for just three seasons, so his trophy return is very impressive. Meanwhile, Ramon Encinas Dios deserves an honourable mention for winning the club's first La Liga title back in the 1941-1942 season.
Attacking midfielder Fernando Gomez has made the most appearances for the club, 459 in all. He also scored 118 times during his tenure. Edmundo Suarez's 186 league goals are a club record; he scored 240 times in all competitions.
Other notable players include David Villa, who scored 107 times for the club, and goalkeeper Santiago Canizares, who played 305 league games for the club, also winning three Zamora awards (best goalkeeper) during his time there. Winger Joaquin was the club's record purchase at €25million back in 2006, but he never reached the heights that his lofty fee commanded.
Levante are their local rivals. Both sides come from Valencia, but Levante have always been in the shadow of Valencia. In the club's last 14 fixtures, Valencia have won seven of them and drawn five.
Barcelona and Real Madrid, meanwhile, have always been their perennial title rivals. These rivalries intensified during the Benitez era when the club was regularly competing for La Liga.
