January Transfer Window Updates

18:52, 2 February - Quiet TDD coming to a close

There are a few minutes remaining but it's not been the drama-fuelled Transfer Deadline Day of years gone by.

The headline of the day would be Jean-Philippe Mateta's move to AC Milan failing to go through.

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest have failed with three bids for Celtic's Arne Engels.

And Spurs have signed an 18-year-old Scottish striker James Wilson on loan.

17:10, 2 February - Forest make third bid for Engels, 11/102.11 to capture Celtic player

Nottingham Forest are faced with a relegation battle and they look ready to spend their way out of trouble.

The Midlands outfit are keen on Celtic's Arne Engels and have reportedly made a third bid for the player.

That has moved the odds of a successful transfer in to 11/102.11 with just two hours left of the window.

Earlier in the day Forest were reported to have made a bit for Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney.

15:55, 2 February - Mateta is 4/15.00 to stay but not play

With news that Jean-Philippe Mateta has failed his medical at AC Milan Betfair are offering 4/15.00 that he stays at Crystal Palace but does not feature for the rest of the season.

The Frenchman has been agitating for a move throughout January following the sale of Marc Guehi and manager Oliver Glasner saying he will not stay on beyond the end of the season.

The move to Milan looked done and dusted but a knee injury looks to have made the Italian club pull out.

Betfair are now offering betting on Mateta's transfer again - Nottingham Forest are 10/111.91 to sign the Palace forward.

14:48, 2 February - Arsenal 13/102.30 for a TDD signing but actively looking

Arsenal are reportedly looking to strengthen the midfield following an injiury to Mikel Merino.

That was the line from manager Mikel Arteta at today's press conference ahead of Tuesday's EFL Cup semi-final against Chelsea (you can read our preview for that game here).

The Betfair Sportsbook offers odds of 13/102.30 that the north London club get a player in to replace Merino.

The title favourites have been rebuffed in attempts to sign Newcastle's Sandro Tonali so it seems the club are active in the market and aiming for midfielders as they compete on several fronts.

11:30, 2 February - Liverpool, Newcastle and Spurs deadline day odds

Tottenham are 10/111.91 to sign a player on transfer deadline day as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the season.

Spurs will be looking to build on yesterday's 2-2 comeback draw against Manchester City in the Premier League and they are in the last-16 of the Champions League.  The Dane's job was in jeopardy recently and bringining in a player or two today could boost his chances of success.

Betfair have also opened markets on Liverpool and Newcastle making deadline day signings.

The Reds' brought into several expensive players in the summer but injuries to key personnel, and their patchy performances in the Premier League, mean it is 7/42.75 that at least one player will arrive at Anfield before 19:00 this evening.

Newcastle fans may have been alarmed by the news this morning that Sandro Tonali could leave for Arsenal today. If the Italian goes, Eddie Howe might wish to strengthen, so the Magpies are 6/42.50 to sign a player.

10:00, 2 February - Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd could sign players today

Chelsea are 1/12.00 to strengthen their squad with a transfer deadline day signing after Betfair opened specials markets on the chances of top Premier League clubs doing late deals today.

The transfer window will slam shut at 19:00 today and after that clubs will have to make do with what they have got until the end of the season.

Will big Premier League clubs make signings to boost their chances in the title race and push for a top four finish?

Leaders Arsenal are back to six points clear after matchday 24 but Mikel Arteta may still be tempted to dip into the market. The Gunners are 13/102.30 to make a deadline day signing and, with reports this morning linking them to Sandro Tonali, Betfair make it 3/14.00 that Newcastle midfielder is heading to the Emirates.

Manchester United made it three wins from three under Michael Carrick on Sunday but will the caretaker manager try to add to his squad on deadline day? The Red Devils are 9/43.25 to recruit a player before this evening.

Elsewhere, Raheem Sterling is still in search of a club, with Fulham 15/82.88 favourites and West Ham 2/13.00 to bring in the former-Chelsea forward.

The Hammers may also sign Nathan Ake, the Man City defender, as Nuno Espirito Santo tries to bolster his squad in their fight to avoid relegation. West Ham are 3/14.00 to get Ake but his former-club Bournemouth are the same price.

Look out for more updates on the transfer deadline day betting news.

30 January - Mateta looks Milan-bound as betting suspended

Betting was suspended on Jean-Philippe Mateta's future after the Crystal Palace forward went odds-on to sign for AC Milan in the January transfer window.

The Frenchman looked set to join Nottingham Forest, after signalling his desire to leave Selhurst Park this month, but the Italian club could beat them to it.

Mateta has scored eight Premier League goals this season and is their biggest attacking threat. However, the departure of Marc Guehi this month, which prompted manager Oliver Glasner to say he and his players were being abandoned by the board, showed they are prepared to sell their major assets.

Palace looked likely to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves for £50m but reports say the move has hit the buffers.

Across London, meanwhile, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Raheem Sterling whose transfer odds we reported yesterday (see below) following his departure from Chelsea.

The north London club are said to be considering a move for Sterling and manager Thomas Frank is thought to approve of the idea. The market, however, only makes Tottenham 4/15.00 to sign the ex-England man. Spurs face Sterling's old club Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend and you can get bets for every matchday 24 fixture here.

29 January - Fulham and West Ham joint favs to sign Sterling

Fulham and West Ham are the joint-favourites at 6/42.50 to sign Raheem Sterling after the former-England forward left Chelsea by mutual consent.

Sterling was frozen out by the Blues when Enzo Maresca became manager in the summer of 2024 and spent an underwhelming loan spell at Arsenal last season.

According to reports, he would like to play for another London club. Fulham and or West Ham could fit the bill, although the former are surely a more appealing prospect, as they currently sit seventh in the Premier League while the Hammers are 18th and 1/31.33 to be relegated.

Sterling's CV so far reads Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal (loan) and he may not want a relegation to potentially besmirch his glittering record. He has four Premier League winner medals from his time at City.

His career at Chelsea was disappointing by his own high standards, although a record of 19 goals in 81 appearances isn't too bad. At 31, he may still have something to offer at Premier League level.

He is reportedly keen to stay in London, and Crystal Palace 9/25.50 may also be interested, although it was reported today that they have agreed a deal in principle to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves.

If Sterling does move further afield Napoli 9/25.50 may be an option.

27 January - Forest 8/111.73 to sign Mateta

Nottingham Forest have emerged as favourites to sign Jean-Phillipe Mateta after making a £35m bid.

The Crystal Palace striker was odds-on to move to Aston Villa last week but it is Midlands rivals Forest who are now in the driving seat.

Palace have reportedly rejected the bid and are asking for £40m so they can sign a replacement of adequate quality.

But traders on the Betfair Sportsbook expect the deal to go through, making Forest 8/111.73 favourites to sign the 28-year-old.

22 January - Aston Villa favourites to sign Mateta

It's been a bad year so far for Crystal Palace with manager Oliver Glasner deciding to leave the club at the end of the season and captain Marc Guehi signing for Manchester City.

Now fans of the club must start preparing for a life without Jean-Phillipe Mateta banging in the goals.

The French forward, scorer of 38 Premier League goals since signing for the 2023-24 season, has told the club he will not sign a new contract.

And it is Aston Villa who are favourites to sign him at 8/111.73. The Midlands club are looking to strengthen for the final few months of the campaign.

A pair of Serie A giants - Juventus (15/82.88) and AC Milan (4/15.00) - are next up in the betting. Other clubs in the frame include Nottingham Forest, Spurs and Chelsea.

15 January - City favourites to sign Palace defender this month

Manchester City are the favourites to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the January transfer window after reports that Liverpool's interest has cooled.

The Reds were the favourites to sign Guehi in the summer but he is 11/82.38 to join Pep Guardiola's team and 3/14.00 to move to Anfield. You can get the same price on him joining Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old would be City's second signing of the current window after they landed Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner was opposed to selling Guehi in the summer but recently said the club would listen to offers for the defender. He was part of the team that suffered an FA Cup third round shock defeat to Macclesfield on Saturday.

Guehi is highly-rated and set to be part of England's World Cup squad this summer and, with City shipping goals recently, Guardiola may see signing him as a way to improve their chances of catching Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

The Gunners are 1/51.20 favourites to win the league and sit six points ahead of City 4/15.00. Signing Guehi in January would signal that City have not given up on catching Arsenal and, in the long term, the England man could become the bedrock of the Etihad club's defence for years to come.

30 December - Five markets to watch

Salah more likely to stay with Liverpool than leave

Will Liverpool's most iconic player of the Klopp and Slot era leave Anfield in the January transfer window? It looked likely after Mohamed Salah claimed he'd been thrown under the bus by the manager at the start of December. After a brief spell on the sidelines, however, Salah has since played for the Reds, before departing to AFCON where he is representing Egypt.

As it stands, with 48 hours to go before the window opens, Salah is 3/101.30 to stay. If he is to leave then a move to a Saudi Arabian club looks the most likely option at 15/82.88, with Galatasaray 9/110.00, any MLS team 12/113.00 and Bayern Munich 14/115.00 also in the market.

Mainoo could follow McTominay to Napoli

Betfair ambassador Alan Shearer said recently that Kobbie Mainoo would have to leave Man Utd if Ruben Amorim didn't start picking the midfielder. The 20-year-old, who played for England in the Euro 2024 final and was anointed as the heir to Paul Scholes, hasn't started for his club yet this season.

To outsiders, it is inexplicable, but Amorim is a stubborn sort who ushered Marcus Rashford out of the club on loan last January. We may see something similar with Mainoo in 2026. He is 11/102.11 to join his former-team-mate Scott McTominay at Napoli, although reports this week linked him with Everton 22/123.00.

Trafford could escape Man City to Wolves or Newcastle

You have to feel for James Trafford who excelled at Burnley last season, then joined Manchester City on the understanding that he would be their first choice this term, only for Pep Guardiola to bring in Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian wasn't leaving PSG to sit on the bench at the Etihad so Trafford has dropped down the pecking order and needs to leave if he is to make England's World Cup squad.

Wolves 9/25.50 are favourites and he will get plenty of shot-stopping practice between the sticks at Molineux. It could be demoralising, however, to be part of a doomed team so could Newcastle 15/28.50 be the better option?

Sterling may get chance to shine at Palace

Raheem Sterling has not played for Chelsea in the Premier League this season and is looking for a way out of Stamford Bridge. A loan move to Arsenal last season did not work out but he may be prepared to try another London club and Crystal Palace could fit the bill.

The Eagles are 9/43.25 to sign the ex-England man who, at 31, may still have plenty to offer a top flight club. If that doesn't work out, Bayern Munich are 7/24.50 to bring in Sterling to reprise his England partnership with Harry Kane.

West Ham, Leeds and Everton eye Ireland hero Parrot

Troy Parrot provided one of the football moments of 2025 when he completed his hat-trick in the 96th minute to give Republic of Ireland a 3-2 win over Hungary and secured a World Cup qualifying play-offs spot for his team. The former-Tottenham man is currently playing for AZ Alkmaar and, while he says he is in no rush to leave the Dutch club, the lure of the Premier League may be too much to resist if a club comes in for him in January.

The Betfair market on Parrott indicates that a move is a possibility for Parrott who spent five years with Tottenham between 2019 and 2024 but failed to break into the first team. The market says Bundesliga club Stuttgart 9/25.50 are the most likely to land Parrott, while Leeds are 5/16.00, West Ham 13/27.50 and Everton 5/23.50.
