Wolfsburg pushing for top-six finish
-
Laval made an excellent start to last night's Ligue 2 game against Nimes, scoring twice in the first 36 minutes, but sadly for us that's where the scoring stopped and we were left a goal short.
We'll grit our teeth and head to Germany's Lower Saxony region now, because Europe-chasing Wolfsburg are in action against relegated Hertha Berlin, and I fancy the hosts to win in style.
Although Wolfsburg made a poor start to the campaign under new coach Niko Kovac, they stuck by the Croatian, and he has rewarded them with a fine campaign. Die Wölfe realistically need just a draw to make sure of a top-seven finish and a place in the Europa Conference League, but if they win and Bayer Leverkusen drop points in Bochum, then Wolfsburg will finish sixth and play in the Europa League.
Wolfsburg have lost just three of their last 12 league games, and at home they are unbeaten in six. They are chasing a third consecutive victory at the Volkswagen Arena, having seen off Mainz 3-0 and Hoffenheim 2-1.
Hertha were relegated thanks to last weekend's dramatic draw against Bochum, which saw the capital club concede a last-gasp leveller. Hertha can only have themselves to blame - they have won just six of their 33 matches in the league, and have leaked 68 goals.
I'll use the Sportsbook's Bet Builder to back Wolfsburg -1 on the Handicap and Over 6.5 Corners at 2.1511/10. Hertha have lost five of their last nine games by multiple-goal margins, and they have nothing to play for here.
