After back-to-back winners in the Championship, our football props column has 5/1 and 2/1 picks for the Rotherham v Cardiff showdown on Thursday.
-
5/1 Quina has 5 cards in last 12 appearances
-
Langford one of the stricter referees
-
Hosts have 2+ goals in more than half their home games
After back-to-back winners in the Championship, we're sticking in England's second tier on Thursday and looking at a massive game at the bottom of the table.
Both Rotherham and Cardiff head into this one two points outside the relegation zone so, with just two games to follow, each side know victory would be a huge step towards survival.
Reasons for hope
As you'd probably expect, the pair sit towards the bottom of the six-game 'form table' but each can pick out recent positives.
Rotherham held newly-crowned champions Burnley last time out at the New York Stadium, improving a decent home record.
Look across the season and you'll see the have won five of their six home games against their fellow members of the bottom eight.
Cardiff, meanwhile, have taken four points form the last six, winning at Watford in their previous away match. They also triumphed at Blackpool earlier this month.
A poor goalscoring record has improved of late but the fact is that only already-relegated Wigan have scored fewer goals than the Bluebirds, who are also without a clean sheet in eight.
That last statistic brings me to my first suggestion - and that's to back Rotherham to score 2+ goals.
They've managed that in those five aforementioned wins against the strugglers and overall have landed this bet more often than not at home.
Yes, Cardiff aren't the worst defensively, but the 2/1 price about Rotherham scoring at least twice looks too big.
Ref Langford likes cards
The other props play I like comes in the player-card market, namely the hosts' Domingos Quina.
The midfielder will be in the heart of the battle in a crucial relegation encounter which promises to be highly competitive and the on-loan Watford man has a great recent card record.
In a period which also takes in his early-season loan spell at Elche in Spain, Quina has been carded in five of his last 12 appearances, the majority of which have been as a substitute.
At Rotherham, he's collected three cards in six appearances and the appointment of Oliver Langford as referee is good one for those seeking flashes of yellow - he averages 4.2 bookings per game, making him one of the division's strictest officials.
Quina is just 4/7 to commit 2+ fouls yet he's out at 5/1 for a card and that simply looks too big.
We'd normally combine the two for a juicy-priced Bet Builder but unfortunately that's not an option on this occasion so we'll split stakes between the two singles.
