The new week begins in Spain, where Tobias Gourlay fancies Real Betis to dunk Alaves deeper into the mire

In Germany yesterday, Arminia Bielefeld and Union Berlin defied Kev's optimism, serving up a 0-0 draw that was no fun for anyone. But Kev's still banked a profit for the week just gone and we're looking to match him over the next seven days.

We start in Spain, where tonight's La Liga match brings second-bottom Alaves to sixth-placed Real Betis. Recent results on both sides suggests there is only one winner and we won't go against the form book today.

Home and away, Manuel Pellegrini's Betis have won six in a row against teams below them in the table. At the Benito Villamarin this term, the Andalusians are W6-D1-L1 hosting those same teams. That record firms to W6-D0-L1 if you take out a draw with seventh-placed Villarreal, who are a cut above today's oppo.

Home and away, Alaves have lost three in a row, and seven of their last nine - only avoiding defeat against teams alongside them in the bottom six. On the road, the Basques are W1-D0-L5 visiting sides currently in the top 10. New coach Abelardo has seen his charges lose their last two away games 1-5 at second-placed Barcelona and 0-4 at fifth-placed Real Sociedad. We're backing Betis to inflict an unwanted hat-trick on him this evening.
