Netherlands v Gibraltar Tips: Back Depay to make Gibraltar pay

Memphis Depay Netherlands
Memphis Depay could be the leading light for the Netherlands tonight

Memphis Depay can lead the Netherlands to a routine home win in Group B of Euro 2024 qualifying, says Tobias Gourlay

  • The Dutch beat Gibraltar 6-0 here a couple of years ago

  • Memphis Depay has scored 4 in 2 against this opposition

  • Back Depay To Score 2 Goals Or More

Italy won 2-0 in Malta yesterday, but the hosts kept their noses clean and didn't pick up the cards Kev wanted to see from them.

He's had a spectacular week nonetheless - and gets a fortnight off to celebrate.

It could be Rotterdam (or anywhere)

Netherlands v Gibraltar
Monday 19:45 (Live on Viaplay Xtra)

Our week starts in Rotterdam, where the Netherlands are hosting Gibraltar in the second round of Group B Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Ronald Koeman's Oranje were thrashed 4-0 in France last week, but are 1.011/100 to bounce back at home to tiny Gibraltar tonight.

These two met at the same De Kuip stadium just a couple of years ago: boosted by a Memphis Depay double, the Dutch ran out 6-0 winners.

Last week, Gibraltar lost their opening Group B match 3-0 at home to Greece.

Julio Cesar Ribas's men are now W0-D0-L39 in qualifiers since they entered international football almost a decade ago.

Backing Gibraltar's opponents to Win to Nil has been the right bet in 28/39 (13/19 when Gibraltar are the away team). The margin of defeat has been at least four goals in 24/39, including 14/19 on the road.

The Dutch are pretty relentless in home qualifiers. They are W28-D1-L4 since 2008. In qualifying for the last World Cup, they struck 16 times in dismissing Montenegro (4-0), Turkey (6-1) and Gibraltar themselves (6-0).

Back Depay to make them pay

They also won the reverse fixture in Gibraltar 7-0, with Depay netting another brace.

In short, it's hard to make the case for anything other than a very comfortable home win - even though the Dutch are likely to be without key players such as Cody Gakpo, Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.

In their absence, we'll back Depay to step up once more. At what should become an odds-against price by kick-off this evening, we'll take him to score at least twice.
