Stephen Kenny knows a win is crucial in Athens

Paul Higham has a 5/1 Bet Builder for Republic of Ireland's trip to Greece, which he expects to be a hotly-contested contest in a steamy Athens.

  • Greece given away plenty of fouls of late

  • Ferguson gave away two fouls in his last international

  • Back 5/1 Bet Builder on fouks and cards in Athens

It's a tough old group for the Republic of Ireland with France and the Netherlands to contend with - meaning they must beat Greece really to stand any chance of causing an upset.

Just the three points will do for now for Stephen Kenny after watching his side put up a good fight against France when going down 1-0 in Dublin.

Gus Poyet's Greece beat Gibraltar in their opener to make it six wins from seven competitive internationals, and a home win here would put them in a nice spot ahead of tackling the bug guns.

It should be a hotly-contested game and that'll be a theme for our Bet Builder.

Leg 1: Konstantinos Mavropanos 2+ fouls

Greece gave away 28 fouls in two games against Northern Ireland and expect something similar in their pysical approach against the Republic.

Stuttgart defender Mavropanos gave away multiple fouls in three of his last five for the Bundesliga side and four fouls in two games against Northern Ireland in the Nations League.

Leg 2: Greece over 1.5 cards

Greece got at least a card in all six Nations League games - and got two cards in four of those outings so it's by no means a stretch to see another two here.

They're 4/71.57 to get over 1.5 cards and up against a physical Irish side then you'd not expect that to be too much of a problem.

Leg 3: Evan Ferguson 1+ foul

Brighton's young forward has been a big find for his club and now he could start proving his worth for his country too if he gets another start.

He scored his first goal on his first start against Latvia in a friendly then put in a shift against France where he noticably gave away two fouls when defending from the front.

Ferguson is 11/43.75 for 2+ fouls which is attractive, especially if he starts, but we'll play it safe as the last leg of our treble with the 4/71.57 on just 1+ foul.

Back Greece over 1.5 cards v Rep Ireland, Mavropanos 2+ fouls & Ferguson 1+ foul @ 5/16.00
