Football Bet of the Day: Dodgy defences on show in Romania

Romanian football fans
We're kicking off our week in Romania

We're heading to Romania's top flight, because Kevin Hatchard's found a game with two defences that can't really be trusted.

Botosani v Hermannstadt
Monday 04 September, 16:30

Red cards can often be the bettors' bete noire, and that was the case in Germany yesterday, as Kevin Volland's dismissal for Union Berlin ended any hopes of a comeback against RB Leipzig. A late collapse saw Union beaten 3-0, but that wasn't a fair reflection of the game.

We'll skip to Romania now, because there's an intriguing top-division clash between Botosani and Hermannstadt, and I think both teams can find the net.

Botosani were a third-tier club as recently as 2004, but they have surged up the divisions, and have even had some European campaigns in recent years. They finished a lowly 12th last season, and this term they have failed to win any of their first seven games in the top division. They have managed just one clean sheet in those matches.

Hermannstadt were only formed eight years ago, adopting the German name used for the Romanian city of Sibiu. They started in the fourth tier of Romanian football, and have since skyrocketed to the top tier. Last season they finished a creditable 11th, and this term they have taken eight points from their first six matches. Like Botosani, they have had defensive issues, failing to keep a single clean sheet in the league so far.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see BTTS trading at a healthy 2.1211/10 here. Both teams have scored in four of Botosani's seven league games so far, and four of Hermannstadt's six. In their last meeting they drew 1-1.

Back Both Teams To Score at 2.12
