Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero was born in Quilmes, Argentina on the 2nd of June 1988.  He joined the youth ranks of Independiente at the age of nine and made his debut for the club in 2003. Aged just 15 years and 35 days, Aguero came on as a substitute against San Lorenzo, breaking the record for youngest player previously held by Diego Maradona.

Following his debut, Aguero was used only sporadically by the club, and it took him until the 2005-2006 season to establish himself in the starting XI. That season he played 36 times and scored 18 goals, which caught the attention of Atletico Madrid, who signed the forward for €23million.

Atletico manager Javier Aguirre eased Aguero into European football following his arrival, opting to bring him in and out of the team fairly regularly. Aguero finished the 2006-2007 season with six league goals in 38 appearances.

The 2007-2008 season saw the departure of Fernando Torres from the club, which in turn made Aguero their most important player. The Argentine did not disappoint, putting in man-of-the-match displays against Real Madrid and Barcelona as well as scoring 19 league goals, helping his side to 4th spot and a return to the Champions League after a ten year absence.

The 2008-2009 season marked the arrival of Diego Forlan and the two forged a potent partnership. Atletico again finished fourth, with Aguero notching 17 league goals. 2009-2010 wasn't as prolific of a season as Aguero was used to; he managed just 12 goals. However, his six goals in Europe helped the club win the Europa League. His final season at Atletico saw him notch 20 goals in 32 games before moving to Manchester City for €45million in the summer of 2011.

Aguero couldn't have dreamed of a better debut season at Manchester City. Going into the final game of the season, Aguero had scored 22 league goals. City were drawing 2-2 to QPR in the 92nd minute, and they needed three points in order to win the Premier League. In the 94th minute, Aguero beat two QPR defenders and fired his shot past Paddy Kenny, giving City a 3-2 victory and their first league title since the 1967-1968 season. The next season wasn't as sweet for Aguero. City's title defence was calamitous as archrivals Manchester United reclaimed the crown, and the striker struggled for goals, scoring just 12 in 30 appearances.

For his country, he has been capped 46 times and has scored 19 goals.
