Radamel Falcao

Radamel Falcao was born in Santa Marta, the oldest existing city in Colombia, on February 10th 1986. Falcao started his career with Lanceros Boyaca, who played in the second tier of Colombian football, and amazingly made his debut for the club in 1999 aged just 13. In 2000, the 14-year-old made seven appearances and scored one goal. In February 2001, at the age of 15, he was signed by Argentine giants River Plate for $500,000.

The club opted to further his youth development. They waited until 2005 to give the Colombian forward his debut. By November of 2005, Falcao was a first-team regular, but his progress was rocked by injury after he damaged his knee ligaments. Then, in January 2006, he further damaged his knee. This ruled him out until September of that year. After his injury setback he returned to the side and was pivotal in helping the club win the Primera Division in 2008. After 90 games and 34 goals for the club, the striker moved to Porto in 2009 for a reported £5million.

Falcao took to European football like a duck to water. In his first season at Porto he scored 25 goals in 28 games and scored 34 goals in all competitions. Despite his goals, the 2009-2010 season saw Porto miss out to Benfica in the league and they were also knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage. However, he did win a Taca de Portugal.

The 2010-2011 season saw Falcao establish himself as one of Europe's premier forwards. He scored 38 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions, helping Porto to win the league, Taca de Portugal, and the Europa League.

In total he played 87 times and scored 72 goals before moving to Atletico Madrid in a €40million move.

Despite the hefty fee, the striker proved to be worth every single penny. He marked his debut season (2011-2012) with 24 league goals from 34 matches and helped the side win the Europa League. His next season (2012-2013) saw the club lift the Copa del Rey and finish in third place, thanks in no small part to his 34 goals from 40 appearances.
The summer of 2013 saw Falcao start a new chapter of his career, as he moved to the affluent Monaco for a reported €60million. It is rumoured that he is earning wages of €14million.

Pep Guardiola has described him as "sensational", whilst Fabio Capello considers the forward to be in the same upper echelons of global football as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
