Peterborough

Peterborough were a relatively late football club, coming into existence in 1934. They played in the Old Midland League before being admitted to the Football League in 1960 at the expense of Gateshead. Their London Road Stadium was opened in 1913. Originally with a capacity of just 250, since the Posh moved there in 1934 the capacity has increased to 14,640.

The record attendance at London Road came in the 1965 FA Cup fifth round clash with Swansea, where 30,096 fans crammed into the stadium. There has been talk of a proposed move to a 20,000-seater stadium, but nothing has come to fruition.

The Posh are not a heavyweight club and their success reflects this. Their best performance in the FA Cup was reaching the quarter-finals in 1965, whilst in the League Cup they reached the semi-finals in 1966. They have won what is now League Two twice and have finished runners up in League One before. Their highest ever finish was 10th place in Division One (Championship) in the 1992/1993 season.

Current director of football Barry Fry is one of the longest serving managers at the club, having managed them between 1996 and 2005. His biggest success was getting the club promoted to Division Two (League One).

Current manager Darren Ferguson is currently enjoying his second tenure as manager. He has enjoyed relative success, winning promotion from League Two in the 2007-2008 season and then finishing runner-up in League One the season after.

Tommy Robson has a place in the Peterborough history books after making a record 482 appearances. Jim Hall tops the list for total goals scored for the club, with 122 in total. Other notable players include striker Craig Mackail-Smith, who scored 80 goals in 185 appearances. Meanwhile, ex-winger George Boyd scored 64 goals in 263 games before moving to Hull and plying his trade in the Premier League. Dwight Gayle played just one season at the club, scoring 13 goals in 29 games, but he gets a mention as the club received a record £4.5million from Crystal Palace when they sold him in 2013.

According to the Football Fan Census, Cambridge United are considered their biggest rivals. There is nothing to separate the two clubs. Both sides have won 14 games apiece but the rivals haven't played one another since 2001.

Northampton Town are actually considered the traditional rivals due to Peterborough being in the county of Northamptonshire. The rivalry dates back to when the clubs faced off in the non-league days.
