Pato

Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva was born on the 1st September 1989 in Pato Branco, Brazil. He took his birthplace Pato and used it as his surname. Pato translates in English as "duck". The Brazilian striker came through the ranks of Internacional and made his debut aged 16, in 2006. He made just 10 appearances for the club before being snatched away by AC Milan for a rumoured £20million.

He arrived in Italy for the start of the 2007-2008 season, in which he performed admirably, scoring nine goals in 20 appearances, but it was a disappointing season for the Rossoneri as they finished a lowly fifth, missing out on Champions League football. In the 2008-2009 season, Pato established himself as one of the best strikers in Italy, netting 18 goals in 42 appearances, and finishing as the club's top scorer, helping his side to a third place finish.

The 2009-2010 season represented a period of highs and lows for Pato. In January 2010 he was named Serie A Young Player of the Year for 2009 but his season was blighted by injury, and he managed just 23 league appearances after struggling with his hamstring. He did, however, manage to score 12 goals. The 2010-2011 season continued in the same vein as he struggled with injury, and was displaced by Zlatan Ibrahimovich. He managed 14 goals in 25 games and picked up a Serie A winners medal.

His next season was further ravaged by injury as he damaged the bicep femoris of his left thigh. This ruled him out for a substantial portion of the campaign, restricting him to just 11 league games. He also turned down a move to Manchester City in January 2012. The 2012-2013 season proved to be Pato's last at the San Siro. He played four times before being sold to Corinthians in January 2013 for £12.18million.

On his return to Brazil, Pato managed to rediscover his form, scoring 17 times in 57 appearances as he helped the side win the Campeonato Paulista.

For Brazil, he helped the youth side win the 2007 South American Youth Championship and was selected for the 2008 Olympics team. He was handed his first international cap on the 26th of March 2008 in a tie against Sweden, and he marked his debut with a goal. Despite establishing himself as a quality striker he was omitted from the 2010 World Cup squad by then manager Dunga. In all he has appeared for his country 27 times and has scored 10 goals.
