Luis Suarez was born 24 January 1987 and joined his local side Nacional at the age of 14. In what was to be something of a pre-cursor to his later career, at the age of 15 he was sent off for head-butting a referee.

He made his first team debut in 2005 at the age of 18 and helped Nacional win the 2005-2006 Uruguayan League with 10 goals in 27 games. At the age of 19 he moved to Holland to join Groningen.
He initially struggled at Groningen due to his lack of Dutch and English but Uruguayan teammate Bruno Silva helped the youngster settle in. During his one season at the club he scored 10 goals in 29 games, which caught the eager eye of Ajax. After Groningen turned down a €3.5million bid from Ajax, Suarez took them to arbitration court to force a move. The court ruled against him, but Ajax upped their bid to €7.5million and landed their man.
In his first season at his new club, Suarez scored 17 goals in 33 appearances and helped them finish second in the league. The following 2008-2009 season, Ajax finished third with Suarez scoring 22 goals in 31 games, but he was dogged by disciplinary problems, including a halftime altercation with teammate Albert Luque over a free kick. The 2009-2010 season saw Suarez named as captain. He helped Ajax finish second in the league after scoring an incredible 35 goals in 33 games.
The 2010-2011 season saw Suarez bite PSV player Otman Bakkal and he was suspended for seven games. Due to this suspension, Ajax sold the player to Liverpool in the 2011 January transfer window for £22.8million.
Suarez's arrival at Anfield helped Liverpool move up from 12th to a finishing position of 6th in the league. He scored four goals in 13 games. The 2011-2012 season was disappointing for both club and player. Suarez scored just 11 goals and Liverpool finished eighth. He was also suspended for eight games after he racially abused Patrice Evra.
The 2012-2013 season was Suarez's best at Anfield. He scored 23 goals in 33 appearances, but picked up a 10-match ban after he bit Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic on the arm.
The Uruguayan spent the summer of 2013 in turmoil as he tried to force away a move from Anfield; he was upset that Liverpool rejected a £40million bid from Arsenal, as he felt he deserved to play Champions League football. Ultimately, Suarez remained at Liverpool and went on to form the deadly "SAS" strike partnership with Danny Sturridge.
For Uruguay he has played 71 times, scoring 39 goals and helping them win the Copa America in 2011.
