Benfica can win tonight's Primeira Liga game with something to spare, reckons Tobias Gourlay
Chaves v Benfica
Thursday 20:15 (Live on Premier Sports 1)
Genoa kept a clean sheet and blotted our copybook in Italy last night. The hosts beat Chievo 2-0 to bring down our BTTS bet. We're sticking around southern Europe today for our shot at redemption.
Benfica lost their Primeira Liga title to Porto last term, but their quest to regain it has started well. Rui Vitoria's men are unbeaten (W4-D1) and top of the table heading into the sixth round of matches. Having won their first two away games 2-0 and 4-0, we fancy the Eagles can take all three points away with them again this evening.
Going back into last season, Benfica have won 12/15 road games. In 10 of those 12 wins, the margin of victory was at least two goals and we like the odds-against price on the Eagles to win with something to spare in Chaves tonight.
Since returning to Portugal's top flight, Chaves have lost 4/4 head-to-heads with Benfica. The current campaign started with a 0-5 defeat at Porto. Since then they've lost another couple of games against Braga and Maritimo, who are both currently in the top half of the table. Daniel Ramos's men have also won a couple of matches, but they came against teams from the wrong half of the table. Against resurgent Benfica, we're backing them to struggle.
