Big guns to fire in Paris
PSG v Bayern Munich
Wednesday 30 March, 20:00
Wales did the business for us in Cardiff last night in terms of the result, as they drew 1-1 with the Czech Republic, but they fell two corners short of what we needed. Muttering a long Welsh swear word, we move on.
We'll take in a game from the Women's Champions League tonight, because there's a heavyweight clash between PSG and Bayern Munich, with Paris defending a 2-1 lead from the first leg.
Bayern are in a thrilling title scrap with Wolfsburg in the Frauen Bundesliga, with just one point separating the sides at the top. However, Bayern have been hit hard by a COVID-19 outbreak, and are missing a clutch of stars at present. They went down 2-1 at home to PSG in the first leg of this quarter-final, with their poor defending at set plays exposed. Marie-Antoinette Katoko twice punished Bayern, first ramming a shot home after the German giants dithered at a corner, and then literally beating Bayern keeper Janina Leitzig to the punch with a header.
However, even without some key players, Bayern posed an attacking threat in the first leg. Klara Bühl scored with a well-struck free-kick, Bayern struck a post and created other fine opportunities. They will still have dangerous attacking stars like Lina Magull and Lea Schüller on the pitch, and they have scored in all but one of their UWCL games this term. In the Bundesliga, Bayern have scored in all but one of their games.
Paris are only three points behind women's football titans Lyon in Feminine Division 1, and they have been close to flawless in this competition. However, even against a depleted Bayern, keeping a clean sheet in such a big game might be tough. We can expect Paris to score though - Katoko is having a terrific season, while Kadidiatou Diani can contribute too. PSG have scored in 26 of their last 28 competitive matches.
I'll back Both Teams To Score here at 1.845/6.
