Final showdown to yield goals
Paris FC v Chambly
Saturday 15 May, 19:00
As it turned out, Espanyol didn't want to secure the Segunda Division title as much as we hoped for, and they promptly suffered their first home defeat since January. Their 2-0 loss to Cartagena was a huge disappointment, but we grit our teeth and move on.
We'll switch our focus to France now, because Paris FC are taking on Chambly in the final set of matches of the Ligue 2 season. Both teams need a win, so I'm expecting goals in the capital.
Paris FC could still will promotion, leading to thoughts of a David v Goliath Paris derby next season. A run of one win in six has seen Paris start to seriously run out of steam, and only a victory tonight guarantees a playoff spot. A draw or defeat could allow Auxerre to snatch the final playoff spot. Paris can at least take heart from their form at the Stade Sebastien-Charlety - they have won four of their last six matches there.
Chambly are in the dropzone heading into the final matchday, but back-to-back wins against Le Havre and Pau have put them within touching distance of safety. Only a victory will do, and even then they'll need other results to go their way, but they are in with a fighting chance. Chambly's defensive struggles (they have conceded a league-high 61 goals) means that backing Over 2.5 Goals in their games is often a sensible play. That bet has paid out in six of their last 10 L2 games, and 20 of 37 overall.
If you look at Paris FC's games, they aren't quite as entertaining (15 of 37 have seen an Over 2.5 Goals bet land), but they beat Chambly 3-0 earlier this season and given that both teams have to go for the win I think we will see plenty of chances tonight. I'll back Over 2.5 Goals on the Sportsbook at 1.834/5.
