Roy Hodgson's tenure as England boss got off to an ideal start with a narrow victory over Norway in Oslo...

England tonight won the first of their two pre-Euro 2012 warm-up games thanks to a 1-0 victory over Norway in the Ullevaal Stadium.

Under the guidance of Roy Hodgson for the first time, England started with Andy Carroll in attack with Ashley Young in support and Stewart Downing and James Milner on the wings. Steven Gerrard captained the side from his midfield position alongside fit again Scott Parker.

It took just nine minutes for Hodgson to see his first goal as England boss and it was the always dangerous Young that gave the visitors the early lead.

The Manchester United winger picked up the ball just in advance of the half way line, drove at the Norwegian defence, turned Fulham centre-back Brede Hangeland inside out before slotting the ball home impressively in the far corner.

The rest of the half was played in lacklustre fashion with neither side seriously threatening to score. Young was matched at 12.011/1 in the First Goalscorer market with the 0-1 Half Time score being backed at a high of 5.04/1.

The second half was played in a typical International friendly manner with both sides making regular substitutions causing the game to descend into a stop-start affair. Norway were arguably the better outfit but neither side made their opposite goalkeepers work too hard.

England were backed at a high of 2.486/4 to win the game with the 0-1 Correct Score being matched at 9.617/2 In-Play. The Over 1.5 Goals option was backed at just 1.111/9 when the Three Lions took an early lead.

Elsewhere, Euro 2012 favourites Spain recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Serbia and there were narrow wins for the Republic of Ireland and Poland. But the surprise results of the night came in Basel where Switzerland put five past a makeshift German side, and in Amsterdam where the Netherlands lost on home soil to Bulgaria.

Spain remain the 4.03/1 favourites to win Euro 2012 just ahead of Germany at 4.216/5, with the Netherlands (8.27/1), England (12.523/2), France (13.525/2) and Italy (15.014/1) the next four nations listed.
