Euro 2012: Arsenal top scorer's future left unresolved
Robin van Persie may wait until after the Euros to reveal his plans

"The uncertainty shouldn’t affect the Arsenal captain’s contribution to his country’s Euro 2012 challenge."

Robin van Persie appears unlikely to know where he will start next season before competing at Euro 2012...

Arsenal's midweek discussions with Robin van Persie over his future failed to provide a positive or even definitive conclusion, with the Dutch striker unwilling to consider a contract extension at present.

The Premier League's top marksman seems to want to gauge which clubs are interested in signing him this summer before deciding whether to stick with the Gunners, for whom his current deal expires next year.

Manchester City are the only English team reckoned to stand a chance of luring the 28-year-old, but such a move would be depressing for Arsenal supporters who have recently seen Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri vindicated in departing for the Etihad Stadium.

Overseas, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two sides expected to appeal most to van Persie, yet while the latter probably won't call, there may be a spot at the Bernabeu if Juventus succeed in their attempts to attract Gonzalo Higuain.

Juventus were also mentioned as a possible destination, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was rumoured to be keen on playing alongside him at AC Milan, however it is alleged that he has no desire to head to Italy. Intriguingly, 61% of the money traded on the van Persie to go market has been on him staying.

The uncertainty shouldn't affect the Arsenal captain's contribution to his country's Euro 2012 challenge, judging by his three goals in three games at the end of the campaign amidst the speculation. The Netherlands are 8.415/2 third favourites to lift the trophy.

Van Persie is the 11.010/1 second favourite to be the tournament's top scorer, but will be fortunate to start as Dutch centre forward given that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has outshone even him this term.

Huntelaar was the most prolific performer in the entire qualifying process with 12 to his team-mate's six. He also topped the Bundesliga charts and led the way in the German Cup and Europa League at the point of Schalke's elimination, yet is a 21.020/1 contender.
