Mario Gómez has led the Bayern Munich frontline with aplomb this season but - like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, say - has never truly won over his doubters at international level.
But with the only goal of yesterday's clash against Portugal - a firm header hit back across Rui Patricio in the Portugal net - Gómez may well have established himself as Germany's leading man for their tilt at Euro 2012 glory.
He certainly seems to have convinced Germany coach Joachim Loew, who said: "Gómez has lots of different qualities - one chance, one goal."
It's natural enough then that Gomez heads the Top Goalscorer betting at 8.27/1. Germany were rampant in qualifying and should average more than a solitary goal per game throughout the rest of their Euro 2012 adventure.
And following yesterday's win, coupled with Denmark's surprise defeat of the Netherlands, they look well placed to reach the knockout rounds. Betfair punters make them 1.454/9 to win Group B and 1.132/15 to qualify.
