League One

Leg 1: Oxford United v Reading, Saturday 12:30: Back the draw

None of Oxford's 12 home league meetings with Reading have ended in a draw (W8 L4) with this set to be the first since April 2001 when the Royals won 2-0; this will be the first league meeting between the pair at the Kassam Stadium, so it's a bit of a boom or bust team, but you have to fancy Oxford here for at least a point.

Des Buckingham hasn't totally convinced since taking over from Liam Manning but they've had a couple of tough home games with Barnsley and Portsmouth recently, and did score twice against Pompey but only took a point.

Reading have lost nine on the road, but they have managed to stem the tide somewhat of late and have drawn five since mid-December, and that is enough to sway me to play on the draw for this, especially as their last three have been close and low-scoring affairs.

KEY OPTA STAT: After losing 11 consecutive league matches on the road between April and November 2023, Reading have only lost one of their last five away from home (W1 D3).

Leg 2: Portsmouth v Northampton, Saturday 15:00: Back the draw

Portsmouth's recent wobbles have made Pompey fans twitchy, as they were flying before Christmas but managed only one victory in a run of six subsequently, yet still they are clinging to the top position as plenty of their rivals have also had a touch of the wobbles. Noted Derby.

Northampton are big outsiders, and it's easy to place Pompey in the acca at a short price, but the Cobblers have recently gained wins on the road against Lincoln and Charlton, and once again have been totally written off.

Indeed, after losing four consecutive away league matches in October, Northampton Town have since lost just one of their last five on the road (W3 D1) and Town haven't lost both league meetings in a season with Portsmouth since the 1979-80 campaign.

The double chance appeals on the visitors but we'll take the 31/10 on the draw.

KEY OPTA STAT: Portsmouth lost 3-0 to Leyton Orient in their last home league match, last losing consecutively at Fratton Park in January 2022.

Back the draw @ 31/10

Leg 3: Bolton Wanderers v Barnsley, Saturday 15:00: Back the draw

We're going for an ambitious three draw acca for League One, and it's hard to split Bolton and Barnsley and both are expected to be pushing for promotion.

Bolton lie in second with the Tykes in fifth and five points behind, and with Bolton winning 10 at home and Barnsley eight on the road, Barnsley will take heart from the fact that lowly Cheltenham almost stifled the Trotters when losing 1-0 recently and kept Bolton to just three shots on target.

The visitors have lost just one of their last 16 league matches on the road (W9 D6) and are unbeaten in their last five (W3 D2).

KEY OPTA STAT: Bolton are unbeaten in their last 15 league meetings with Barnsley (W7, D8), since a 2-1 away loss in August 1997.

League Two

Leg 1: Mansfield Town v Notts County, Saturday 15:00: Back Mansfield

Mansfield have been coupon-busters of late and have won just once from their last six games. They've been so reliable all season, especially at home, but they've failed to beat Doncaster and lowly Sutton recently in a pair of 1-1s, and I gave Sutton no chance.

However, this was the fixture earlier in the season on Sky that was a blockbuster, and Nigel Clough's team blew the Magpies away with a 1-4 demolition job and a classic counter-attacking performance.

County's defence is just too leaky and they have conceded a massive 33 goals on the road, and at times, look all over the place. It's a shame as with their attacking talents, they should be up there for the title.

KEY OPTA STAT: Mansfield Town have lost just one of their last 14 Football League matches against Notts County (W7 D6), after winning the reverse fixture 4-1 earlier this season.

Leg 2: Salford City v Wrexham, Saturday 15:00: Back Salford

There's been a real upturn in form for Salford since League One master Karl Robinson took over and are unbeaten in four with a brilliant recent 2-3 win at Crewe, and that makes them a bet here against Wrexham.

Robinson has conjured up eight points from 12 since he took over and forward Matt Smith bagged a hat-trick at the Alex to take his tally to 19 for the season, and goals down at the foot of the table are worth their weight in gold.

Wrexham lost last time out (0-1 v Newport) and are looking to avoid losing back-to-back matches in League Two for the first time since April 2008, the season they were last relegated from the football league, and they tend to be too short on the road for me.

KEY OPTA STAT: After losing four consecutive league games between December and January, Salford City are unbeaten in their last four (W2 D2) and are looking to make it five matches without defeat for the first time since April 2022 (run of 11).

Leg 3: Accrington Stanley v Grimsby, Saturday 15:00: Back Accrington

The evens price on Accrington is a fair assessment of their chances against Grimsby for Saturday and while a firm mid-table side, their home form stands out with eight wins compared to just four on the road.

Stanley hammered Salford 3-0 on New Year's Day and were unlucky to lose at home to Gillingham recently as they created more chances.

They've got an xG at home of 1.63, which is their best figure and have won their last two league matches against Grimsby Town, after failing to win any of their previous five (D2 L3).

KEY OPTA STAT: Grimsby put an end to a 14-match winless league run on the road last time out, beating Salford 3-0 and are looking to win back-to-back League Two matches on the road for the first time since September 2022.
