Dimitar Berbatov is a professional footballer who was born in Blagovgrad, Bulgaria, in 1981. He is the country's all-time leading goalscorer with 48 goals, which he accumulated over the course of 78 appearances before retiring from international football altogether in 2010.

The Bulgarian striker currently represents Fulham in the Premier League in England, but he has featured for both Tottenham and Manchester United. He took part in the 2009 Champions League final with the latter when they were defeated by Barcelona in Rome.

Berbatov was able to showcase his talent with his home-town club Pirin Blagoevgrad in their youth team. After a successful period, he moved to CSKA Sofia where he signed a professional contract in 1998.

At the age of just 18, the forward made his debut for the A Football Group club during the 1998-1999 campaign. That season he was part of the successful side which won the Bulgarian Cup.

Following a four-year spell at CSKA Sofia, where he scored 26 goals, he signed for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany for a fee of €1.3million on January 1st, 2001.

In his second season at Leverkusen, he racked up 16 goals and made his mark in the Champions League in the club's run to the final. Although he failed to win a trophy in
Germany, he helped them finish runners-up in the Bundesliga behind winners Borussia Dortmund.

Berbatov moved to England in 2006 when Tottenham were impressed enough to pay €16million for his services.

The Bulgarian had no problems adjusting to the Premier League as he scored 27 goals in his first two seasons. There was also some silverware for the player to boast, as Spurs won the League Cup in 2008.

In the summer transfer window of 2008, he completed a move up north to Manchester United for £30.75million on a four-year contract. There had been interest from a number of European clubs including Manchester City, but Berbatov expressed his desire to play for the Red Devils and then manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Two Premier League titles followed at Old Trafford. He also won the League Cup again in 2010, the FA Community Shield twice, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2008.

Despite scoring 48 goals in that period, five in one league game alone, he fell out of favour with Ferguson and this inevitably prompted a move away from the club.
In August 2012, he travelled back down to London to sign for Fulham. In his first season there, he was the club's leading goalscorer.
