Jack Critchley has taken a look at this weekend's Opta Stats and picked out a best bet from each of the 3pm KOs in the Championship...
-
Victory for the Sky Blues
-
Whittaker to taunt his former employers
-
Foxes to march on
-
Coventry vs Norwich
Second successive home triumph for Sky Blues
The Opta Stat:
"Since winning their first two away league games on a Saturday under David Wagner in January last season, Norwich have only won two of their nine games since (D3 L4), losing each of the last two"
Following a long trip to South Wales on Wednesday night, Norwich are back on the round and could struggle to contain an improving Coventry outfit. The Canaries have conceded the most away goals (more than Rotherham!) in the Championship and have kept just a single clean sheet so far on their travels.
Coventry have drawn too many home games this season, yet they are still unbeaten and their victory over Blackburn on Wednesday will surely have given them a sizeable confidence boost. With no midweek excursions involved, the Sky Blues will surely be much fresher here.
The Betfair Bet:
Ipswich vs Preston
Another success for McKenna's men
The Opta Stat:
"Ipswich have scored 61 goals across their last 21 home league games (W16 D4 L1), with Lincoln in October 2022 being the last visiting side in the league to manage a clean sheet at Portman Road"
Ipswich continued their incredible form with a comfortable victory over Hull in midweek. The Tractor Boys remain at Portman Road and will be confident of maintaining their impressive streak. Only Leeds have left this ground with maximum points and Preston come off the back a tough trip to Leicester.
The Betfair Bet:
Plymouth vs Swansea
Whittaker to prove his worth
The Opta Stat:
"Morgan Whittaker has scored four goals in 10 appearances for Plymouth in the Championship this season, more than he managed in 58 appearances in the competition for former clubs Swansea (2) and Derby (1) combined"
Backing players to score against their former club can be a dangerous game, however, Whittaker's form this season has been sensational and he will surely be motivated ahead of this clash. He's scored four times already at Home Park and is averaging 4.8 shots per game here.
The Betfair Bet:
Sheffield Wednesday vs Huddersfield
A low-quality affair at Hillsborough

The Opta Stat:
"Sheffield Wednesday have won just two points from 10 games in the Championship this season - in the history of the second tier, only Coventry in 1919-20 (1) have ever had fewer points through their opening 10 games of a single campaign, when accounting for three points per win all-time and excluding points deductions"
Sheffield Wednesday parted ways with Xisco Munoz in midweek. The Owls were defeated at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night and they will aiming to bounce back here. Their home games have averaged just 2 goals per game and they've netted just twice here so far.
Huddersfield were poor in midweek and Darren Moore will be motivated to get one over on his former club, however, this could be a tight and tense 90 minutes for both sides.
The Betfair Bet:
Southampton vs Rotherham
Routine 90 minutes for the Saints
The Opta Stat:
"Rotherham have lost all five of their Championship away games this season; only in 2016-17 (first 7) and 2018-19 (6) have the Millers ever lost each of their opening six away matches in a Football League campaign, both seasons in which they were relegated from the Championship"
Southampton are looking to clinch three consecutive victories having seen off Stoke and Leeds in the last seven days. This looks to be their easiest assignment yet and they should be able to bag a few goals here.
Rotherham's away form has been exceptionally poor and doesn't look like improving anytime soon.
The Betfair Bet:
Cardiff vs Watford
Bluebirds to take at least a point
The Opta Stat:
"Cardiff have won each of their last four home league games, as many as in their previous 22 (D7 L11); it's their longest such run since winning seven consecutive games between January/March 2018 under Neil Warnock"
Cardiff were disappointing in midweek, yet they should be able to bounce back on Saturday. They've had an extra day to prepare for this clash and having scored nine times across their last four matches here, they should be able to puncture the Watford back-line.
The Betfair Bet:
Millwall vs Hull
Millwall's inconsistencies to continue
The Opta Stat:
"Millwall have lost five of their previous seven home league games (W2), conceding 12 goals during that time, as many as in their prior 16 such games (W8 D6 L2)"
Millwall are yet to win consecutive matches this season and having produced the perfect away performance at Home Park on Tuesday, they'll be looking to go back-to-back.
Nevertheless, Hull are difficult to beat and are unbeaten in three of their last four away matches. If they can put their midweek defeat behind them, they should be able to take something back to Humberside.
The Betfair Bet:
Leeds vs Bristol City
Low-scoring clash at Elland Road

The Opta Stat:
"Bristol City have lost seven of their last eight away league visits to Elland Road to face Leeds (D1), last beating the Yorkshire side on the road in November 1979"
Bristol City have been tough to beat on the road and the majority of their games have been level at the break.
Leeds have kept consecutive clean sheets at home and won't be giving much away. This could be tight.
The Betfair Bet:
Leicester vs Stoke
Foxes and Potters to serve up an entertaining contest
The Opta Stat:
"Stoke won their last away league game, beating Bristol City 3-2; the Potters only won back-to-back away league games once last season, doing so in February/March against Swansea (3-1) and Sunderland (5-1)"
Leicester are looking imperious. They produced another superb display to brush aside PNE in midweek and they will be confident of adding another three points to their tally.
Stoke came from 2-0 down to beat Bristol City in their previous away game and the Potters will offer a threat going forward.
The Betfair Bet:
QPR vs Blackburn
Rovers to potentially sneak past struggling Rs
The Opta Stat:
"QPR haven't scored more than one goal in a league home game since October 2022 (2-1 v Wigan), with the R's scoring just 10 goals in the 19 such matches they've played since then"
QPR are yet to win at home, although they are rarely swatted aside at Loftus Road. Blackburn nearly took a point from their trip to CBS and JDT's men should have enough firepower to trouble their hosts.
The Betfair Bet:
