Record breaking Foxes
Leicester became the first side in the history of the English second-tier to win their first six away league games of a season as they came from behind to beat Swansea 3-1 on Saturday. The success in South Wales was the Foxes' 11th Championship victory from their opening 12 games following relegation from the Premier League last season.
City were threatened by the Swans, falling behind in the first-half but Enzo Maresca's league leaders deservedly levelled when Jannik Vestergaard bundled home. Leicester's blend of athleticism and quality continued to cause problems after the break and teenager Abdul Fatawu scored a second before Kelechi Iheancacho wrapped the match up late on.
Speaking post-match, Maresca said, "I'm very happy" with his team's performance. Adding, "Even at 1-0 down, we continued in the same way. No panic. This is for us the most important thing. First half we were in control. We deserved to draw (in the first half). In the second half I think we continued in the same way and we got those rewards."
Black Cats sloppy
Elsewhere, Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray admitted his Black Cats side failed to stand up to the physical test after being punished for sloppy starts to both halves against Stoke. The Wearsiders suffered a second successive Championship loss, going down 2-1 in the Potteries having missing a couple of presentable opportunities late on.
Mowbray said, "We talked about being ready for the physical confrontation that was coming, and I think we fell a little bit short in that aspect. I've spent a lot of time trying to get them to realise the intensity of football matches and we didn't deal with that. We did fall below par for the way we play and what we do."
Sunderland went into the match without a recognised striker as neither Mason Burstow nor Nazariy Rusyn were ready from the off. Having opted to play with Alex Pritchard and Patrick Roberts as his most advanced players in that Stoke defeat, Mowbray expected to shuffle his pack and revert to a more routine XI for the trip to the East Midlands.
Foxes difficult to dismiss
Leicester have made a record-breaking start to life back in the Championship and the Foxes are difficult to dismiss as 1.564/7 favourites. Enzo Maresca's men top the second-tier Expected Goals (xG) rankings, averaging a huge 1.97 xG and allowing just 0.88 xG per-game on average this season. And those figures improve when viewing their King Power record.
The hosts have notched multiple goals in nine of their 12 league tussles, averaging 2.17 goals per-game, and head into their midweek match-up having recorded four shutouts in their most recent six showdowns. With that in-mind, I'm happy to support Leicester to win and Over 1.5 Goals at 3/41.75 - a selection that has a 75% success-rate this season.
Sunderland sit in sixth yet the Black Cats are already 14 points shy of their opponents pre kick-off. The visitors have also been beaten in four of five fixtures against teams inside the top-13, shipping multiple goals in defeat to fellow high-flyers Ipswich and Preston.
