Leeds 1.351/3 missed the chance to go top of the Championship and slipped out of the automatic promotion places following a 2-1 defeat at Coventry on Saturday. The Sky Blues scored either side of the break before substitute Joel Piroe reduced the arrears, though the Whites couldn't find a second strike, seeing their 15-game unbeaten league run end.

Despite the loss, head coach Daniel Farke was not overly critical of his side, but the Leeds boss did rue coming off second best in "decisive duels" as the home side were superior in physical contests, particularly from set-pieces. Still, the German admitted he was disappointed but not disheartened with the Whites dominating the data.

He said, "From the statistics, a really good away game, but we didn't win the decisive duels, this was crucial. If you give these two goals relatively cheap away, it's always a tricky game against a really good home side. But "we dominated possession, we had more Expected Goals (xG), more shots on-target - today was just one of those days."

Sunderland 10.009/1 were held to a scoreless draw by Bristol City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. The Black Cats had chances and hit the woodwork on multiple occasions but were unable to take their opportunities and were forced to settle for a share of the spoils - the result keeps the Wearsiders in mid-table, and now 15 points adrift of the play-off places.

Having been thrashed 5-1 at home by Blackburn last midweek, Sunderland interim boss Mike Dodds made three changes to his side and was very pleased with the reaction from the Black Cats as they produced a dominant effort in front of their home supporters.

Dodds said, "We had 20 shots on goal. If their goalkeeper isn't man of the match, I'll be amazed. It was a much more positive reaction to the previous game which psychologically for the group is really important because that last game was completely unacceptable. I'm disappointed because I think we deserved to win the game. It should be three points."

Leeds backed to bounce back

Leeds have been almost flawless at Elland Road this term - the Whites have returned an exceptional W16-D4-L0 in LS11, comfortably owning the division's strongest home record. Daniel Farke's outfit have struck at least twice in 14 of those 20 tussles, whilst recording an impressive nine clean sheets - only two sides have managed to score twice away at Leeds.

Sunderland have steadied to post W1-D2-L1 in their past four fixtures, though the Black Cats' road record offers little inspiration. The Wearsiders have managed just W5-D5-L10 on their travels, with the visitors suffering five losses in seven away days in 2024 alone. What's more, Mike Dodd's men have kept just three clean sheets on the road since September.
