Hull to execute a successful game plan in the first half
Anyone who closely follows the stats will tell you that Hull have been vastly underperforming all season. Yet, it appears to be part of Sergej Jakirovic's plan, and Tigers fans shouldn't be overly worried about taking on Boro this weekend.
The Humberside outfit fell apart after conceding an early goal in the first meeting between the sides this season. Yet, they found the perfect approach and executed it exquisitely when they met at the Riverside at the end of 2025.
Hull are adept at absorbing pressure, staying in the game and then hitting their opponents decisively on the break. This has worked particularly well against good footballing sides, with Jakirovic's men taking six points off Southampton, holding Coventry to a pair of draws, doing the double over Wrexham and Norwich, as well as taking four points off Swansea.
Boro tend to approach games in their favoured fashion with Kim Hellberg's men getting the ball down and sticking to their aesthetically-pleasing style of football. This has resulted in some eye-catching victories, but it has also resulted in unfavourable outcomes against solid, low-block opposition such as Charlton, Portsmouth and Blackburn.
This is an interesting match-up and Hull won't be overly affected by the neutral venue. They've been competent on the road this season and their tactics have been fairly effective away from the MKM.
The game has been mired in controversy, and there is a chance that Hull have spent many hours preparing to take on Southampton, however, the approach may not vastly alter for Boro, although a few tweaks will undoubtedly be required.
The Teesiders have been priced up as the 10/111.91 favourites for this game and they will arrive with a sense of purpose, but Hull won't budge easily and neither side will want to give much away with so much at stake.
Each of Hull's semi-finals were goalless at the break and this one could also be extremely tight before opening up in the second period.

Boro looked exhausted in the additional 30 minutes against Southampton and they weren't far off taking the Saints to penalties. They lost Tommy Conway to injury during that game and many others looked dead on their feet at the final whistle.
Luckily, there has been plenty of time to recover from those exertions and Hellberg will have kept his players in training, amidst the uncertainty of their participation in this contest.
The coach has often been reluctant to utilise his bench, suggesting that he may not trust the deputies to perform in the big games. Leo Castledine and Jeremy Sarmiento weren't introduced until late in the day, whereas Alan Browne's introduction was only necessary due to Conway's unfortunate injury.
If the Teessiders find themselves struggling to infiltrate Hull's defensive wall, we can't be sure that Hellberg has a Plan B up his sleeve. This one may go all the way.
Hackney's return could boost Boro
Although this match may require an additional 30 minutes, I don't expect it to end 0-0. Boro simply have too much firepower, and although Hull will put up stern resistance, I suspect that the reinstated Teessiders will find a way through, eventually.
Although it's tempting to back a Hull defender to catch Boro napping from a corner, neither side has particularly excelled from set-pieces this season, so the goals are likely to come from open play.
With Aidan Morris alongside him, the 23-year-old Redcar born Hayden Hackney tends to have a little more freedom to break the lines and gatecrash the penalty area. He isn't afraid to try his luck from distance and it may be his quality that finally unlocks the Hull rearguard.
There's a chance that he may not be deployed from that start here, but even if he only features for the final 45, that should be enough time for him to make an impact.
He may not have featured since March, yet he has scored some important goals for the club this season including winners against Norwich and Birmingham and this could be a hugely pivotal goal for the midfielder, who has been frequently linked with a move to the top flight.
