On the evidence of the 2013/2014 Championship season so far, this year's promotion and relegation battles look set to go down to the wire.

Promotion
Leicester City: After spending a significant amount of money on the playing squad, Leicester City's ambitious Thai owners will be delighted with how the first half of the 2013/2014 season has gone. Nigel Pearson's men are currently favourites in the Championship odds to achieve automatic promotion to the Premier League and prove the club's owners were right to back their manager.
QPR: Following their well-publicised relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2012/2013 season, QPR's owners made it clear an instant return to the top flight was the sole aim for Harry Redknapp's men this season. With a squad packed with high-earners, Redknapp will be hoping his vast experience will help him lead the club back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Derby: Since taking over from Nigel Clough in September, former England manager Steve McClaren has transformed Derby County from a team in the bottom half of the table into one that is right up there with the favourites in the Championship odds to achieve promotion.
Burnley: Despite losing prolific striker Charlie Austin to QPR at the start of the season, Burnley have given themselves a decent chance of promotion this season, thanks mainly to the goalscoring exploits of Danny Ings. Lacking the financial power of the likes of Leicester and QPR, Burnley may be looking at the Championship Play-Offs as their best chance of promotion.
Relegation
Barnsley: The Tykes are among the favourites in the Championship odds for the drop this season after a disappointing campaign so far. Barnsley fans have been given fresh hope following the reappointment of Danny Wilson as manager.
Yeovil: Following their memorable promotion from League One at the end of the 2012/2013 season, Yeovil were always going to find it tough to compete in the Championship. Unless experienced manager Gary Johnson can turn things around, Yeovil's time in the second tier could be a brief one.
Doncaster Rovers: The South Yorkshire club returned to the Championship after sealing promotion from League One in 2012/2013, although things haven't gone according to plan so far, leaving Doncaster one of the favourites for the drop.
Sheffield Wednesday: After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Sheffield Wednesday are again in real danger of joining their city rivals Sheffield United in the third tier of English football after a dismal first half of the season.
