Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen could be a big threat to Liverpool as the Reds try and overturn a first-leg deficit at Anfield on Wednesday night says Dave Tindall...

Reds continue to falter under Slot

Even before Tottenham equalised on Sunday - that would be a Spurs side who had lost their last six games - there was a feeling inside Anfield that something bad was coming.

The Reds, for the umpteenth time this season, lacked energy in the final stages and conceded a decisive late goal. It was a deserved point for Spurs and the stark reality is that a form table from Premier League Match Day 6 onwards has Liverpool in 10th. In their last 25 top-flight games they've won nine, drawn seven and lost nine.

In Europe they've made a better fist of it, winning six games out of eight in the league phase, but two of their three defeats in the competition this season have come against Wednesday's opponents, Galatasaray.

Both were by the same 1-0 scoreline, first in the group stage and then again in the opening leg of this last-16 tie.

Galatasaray full of confidence

Galatasaray should not be underestimated. As well as having Liverpool's number twice, they also stunned Juventus in the playoff round.

That was mainly due to a 5-2 home win and, in fact, they lost the return 3-0 in Turin to send the game to extra-time. But Galatasaray showed they have mettle by scoring twice in those added 30 minutes to go through 7-5 on aggregate.

They give you a chance but the Turks are a dangerous side and a 3-0 home win over Basaksehir at the weekend will have put them in good heart for their trip to Anfield.

Gala have potential to shock

The market fully expects Liverpool to win on the night and move into the last eight.

Liverpool are 2/71.29 in the match market and just 4/111.36 to qualify. Galatasaray are 17/29.50 to make it three wins out of three against the Reds while they're 21/103.10 to qualify.

A draw on the night - which would see Gala go through of course - is 5/16.00.

Something isn't right at Liverpool so this is not just a simple case of expecting Anfield under the lights on a European night to magically turn everything around.

I do actually think that needing to win will help the hosts play with more positive intent in the first half at least. The mission is clear.

But backing Galatasaray to qualify (either via a win, a draw, in extra-time or in penalties) is tempting.

Osimhen the dangerman

My bets on Wednesday, though, come in the player markets.

Victor Osimhen got the winner via the penalty spot in the group stage win over Liverpool.

In the second match in Turkey, he set up the first, missed a golden headed chance and later had a goal ruled out somewhat controversially after an offside earlier in the build-up.

He's a handful and I'll play him in a couple of markets.

Firstly, with 26 goals in 38 appearances for club and country this season, let's back him anytime at [2/1].

The Nigerian has four goals in his last five games and is nicely rested after scoring and then coming off with 15 minutes to go in Gala's weekend win over Basaksehir.

Second, I'll play him in a shots double with Dominik Szoboszlai.

The requirement is that each player takes a shot (no need to be on target) in each half. Osimhen is averaging 4.56 shots per game in the Champions League this season so he's very much the focal point for Galatasaray.

Szboszlai loves to shoot. He's pinged off three shots in each of his last three matches and averages over 2.5 per game in this tournament. With Liverpool needing something he'll surely be one of their best options and, as we know, the Hungarian will be on free-kick duty and more than happy to try one of his thunderblasters from range.

With Betfair offering punters the chance to Bet £10 and Get £10 on Football Accas and Bet Builders, there are plenty of ways to try and take advantage for those predicting an Anfield upset.

One obvious bet based on what's been said to far is Osimhen to score and Galatasaray to qualify. That pays 9/25.50.
