Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers Football Club is an English professional football club based in the town of Blackburn, Lancashire, currently competing in the Football League Championship following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of 2011-2012 season. Blackburn are currently one of only five clubs to have won the Premier League, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Founded in 1875, Blackburn are one of only three clubs to have been founder members of both the Football League and then the Premier League, joining Aston Villa and Everton. In 1890, the club moved to its permanent home at Ewood Park, where they have played ever since. Burnley and Preston have long been Blackburn Rovers' main rivals, although the success of the 90s side did see a rivalry build with Manchester United.

Before the birth of the Premier League in 1992, Blackburn's greatest success came before 1930, winning the First Division twice in 1911-1912 and 1913-1914, and the FA Cup on five occasions. Relegation from the top flight in 1965-1966 was followed by 26 successive seasons of football outside the top flight before their return in 1992.

Following their promotion to the new Premier League, Blackburn's ambitious owner Jack Walker set about bringing success to the club, installing Kenny Dalglish as manager and spending big money to sign the likes of Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton. Walker's significant financial investment paid off in 1995 when the club became Premier League champions, edging out rivals Manchester United to seal the championship.

However, the title-winning squad was broken up over the following years and the club were relegated at the end of the 1998-1999 season, spending just one season back in the Football League before achieving promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Another eleven seasons in the Premier League followed before dropping into the Championship in 2012.

In November 2010 the Indian company V H Group bought Blackburn Rovers, since which point relations between the club and the fans have often been strained. The club is currently managed by Gary Bowyer after previous manager Michael Appleton was dismissed on 19 March 2013. Appleton was the third manager sacked in six months after Steve Kean and Henning Berg, and the fourth manager to have lost his job under the new ownership.
