Huge celebrations after dull 0-0 score at Selhurst Park
A Betfair punter won £264,712.40 from a £50 stake after his 13-fold acca on the Betfair Sportsbook triumphed on Saturday thanks (in part) to a dull goalless draw at Selhurst Park.
But there was nothing dull about this punter's bet as the 0-0 scoreline between Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest confirmed a £50 stake had been turned into more than a quarter of a million pounds.
Sensational bet starts with a nervy Spurs win
The punter kicked-off his acca by backing Tottenham to win at Luton, and despite Spurs dominating the early stages they were reduced to 10 men on the stroke of half-time with the scoreline still goalless.
But Micky van de Ven poked home in the early stages of the second half and gritty Tottenham held on to their slender advantage to get the punter off to a winning start.
At the same time as Spurs were winning 1-0, Middlesbrough thrashed Sunderland 4-0 to land the second leg of this incredible acca.
Brave wager included four draws
What was remarkable about this 13-fold acca is that it included four draws, all of which came in.
Everton, Chelsea, Fulham, Blackburn, Leeds, Ipswich and Leicester all recorded relatively routine wins for the punter, with all bar Leeds winning by at least two goals, so it was all down to the four draws.
Cardiff were in front early against Watford, but the Hornest struck back in the second half to earn at 1-1 draw. The same scoreline occured when Coventry scored an 88th minute leveller against Norwich, while Millwall and Hull played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at The Den.
So with 12 legs of the acca successful, all eyes were on Selhurst Park where our brave punter needed a draw between Crystal Palace and Nottm Forest to bag over a quarter of a million pounds.
Only Morgan Gibbs-White came close to scoring when his brilliant deft volley struck the upright, and at the end of one of the Premier League's dullest games of the season, the Betfair punter was in dreamland and now £264,712 richer.
Betfair Spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom said: "It's been a memorable day for one Betfair punter who has taken us to the absolute cleaners with a game changing 13-fold accumulator, winning an incredible £264,000."
"Hats off to the punter who, not only predicted a number of wins, but also correctly predicted four draws in matches across the Premier League and Championship.
"An 88th minute equaliser for Coventry against Norwich really rubbed the salt in our wounds, but that's football, and from everyone at Betfair we have to wish them a huge congratulations!
"It's been a great day for Betfair punters in general, with our SuperBoost of Son Heung-min to have one or more shots on target landing early in the first half against Luton Town on Saturday."
