An American football punter won £174K on Betfair from a combined stake of £114 by backing six division winners in the NFL.

From the Denver Broncos in the AFC West to the New England Partiots in the AFC East, our punter only backed outsiders at 3/14.00 or above to land the huge winner. 

Alongside the Broncos and the Patriots our punter added Pitsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks to win the six figure sum. 

It would have been even better for our punter if the Indianapolis Colts had not failed to win the AFC South. Had that leg come in, we would have been talking about winnings of £660K from just £114.

As it stands, six out of seven and £174K is a brilliant win and a remarkable way to start 2026.

How stunning NFL winning bet breaks down

This punter was smart. They knew the NFL and they knew their betting, which goes to show that the hard work of research, mixed with a willingness to be bold, can pay off.

So here's what they did. Selecting seven teams each to win their regional division they staked a total of £114 across 63 permutated ACCAs consisting of 35 x £1 four-fold bets, 21 x £3 five-fold bets and seven x £2 six-fold bets.

When six out of seven came in, the bettor was well and truly dancing in the endzone, with the ACCAs paying out as follows;

- Five-folds (£63) returned £99,144
- Six-fold (£14) returned £60,480
- Four-folds (£35) returned £14,940

Play-offs start with Seahawks with Super Bowl favourites

The win leaves them in a superb position at the start of the season play-offs which start this weekend and which will ultimately decide which two teams reach Super Bowl LX on 8 February.  

The big winner can now choose whether to join the many punters who will be having a bet on the play-offs by revinesting some of their £174K. Or whether to simply sit back and watch the action unfold. 

The play-offs are the part of the season when things get serious. Gone are the also-rans and just the strongest teams survive for the knockout ties which often throw up surprises.
