Kane has to be talked about in same bracket as Messi, Ronaldo and Haaland
Scoring 50 goals in a season was unheard of in my day. When I started out in the 80s, if you got 20 goals then you were regarded as a really, really good player. I think that was the benchmark, for any forward, was to get 20. Clearly not anymore. I mean, Haaland, Messi, Ronaldo, Kane, these guys have taken it to a different level. Obviously, things have changed now, but to get 50 in one season is remarkable.
I remember Clive Allen getting 49 once at Tottenham many years ago, and it was crazy. Harry just seems to be getting better with age, doesn't he? It's remarkable and a great achievement. There's still plenty more to come. He may even hit over 60 yet with the number of games left.
He's guaranteed to score more in the Champions League after reaching the semi-finals, and then, however long we've got left in the Bundesliga. It wouldn't surprise me if he went past 60.
I think within the game he is highly respected, I can't tell you about the fans, but myself, and I think within the game, he's respected tremendously well.
I think he's an amazing player, he has been for such a long time now and he made a brave move going over to Germany. I mean, he's won one Bundesliga, and he might actually win a Champions League, so you just never know.
Arsenal have put themselves in a great position to win the Champions League
Arsenal have put themselves in a great position in the Champions League, and I mean, for all the talk of them not playing well, they're in the semi-final and at the top of the Premier League. As Mikel Arteta said, they would have taken your hands off for that beginning of the season if someone had said that to them.
However, in terms of form, they're not playing great football, and they would love to get back to playing the football they were in the early part of the season, which, obviously, they need players back from injury as well, but it's all to play for. It's going to be an exciting end to the season.
Bukayo Saka needs to be fit for the World Cup to give England any chance of winning it
Saka missing the rest of the season would be a huge blow to Arsenal and a huge blow to England, clearly, because although not hitting the heights that he has this season from last season he's still a wonderfully talented player. He'd be a big miss if he wasn't there for England.
Noni Madueke is there, isn't he? Whether you could play Palmer there as well, they're not short of options England, put it that way. Having said that, you need all of England's best players fit if they're going to go and win the World Cup, and for me, Bukayo Saka is one of England's best players.
Leaving Mo Salah out against PSG was the wrong call by Arne Slot
I expected what we saw Liverpool do in the second half to happen in the first half. They made a huge call-in leaving Mo Salah on the bench which wasn't the right call for me. Not when you look at Alexander Isak's performance, not when he only had five touches. He didn't look fit, and it was a huge call to leave their main goalscorer out, albeit he hasn't been in great form with only 11 goals this season. Having said that, he did score the weekend. Another big call was to leave Rio Ngumoha out. So, there were one or two selection surprises.
In the second half, they had a 25-minute spell where they put PSG under pressure but didn't really create any big chances. I think the keeper made two good saves, one in the first half, one in the second half but other than that, Liverpool didn't have enough to break them down. PSG had what Liverpool didn't in terms of a lethal, clinical goalscorer in Ousmane Dembele.
The best team won over two legs. I mean, in every position, PSG were better than Liverpool. It's been a tough season for Liverpool.
Liverpool have to buy a striker in the summer transfer window after Ekitike's injury
Ekitike will be a huge miss for Liverpool with his serios injury. Him and Szoboszlai have probably been the best two players for Liverpool this season. I was at the ground, and I saw it straight away. I always fear when there isn't anyone around when someone goes down injured, because it seems so many times that the really bad injuries are the ones like that
Mine was like that when I ruptured my ankle and was out for 7 months. There was no one around me challenging me and I just knew straight away, because he went to his achilles, he tried to get up and then fell straight back down and I thought it might be a bad one there, and you have to feel for him. It's tough to take that when you're so close to the World Cup. Any injury is bad but one that's going to keep you out for that amount of time is horrendous.
I think they're going to have to go into the transfer market now looking for a striker off the back of this injury because as well as that the likes of Andy Robertson and Salah are leaving as well.
Ekitike is going to be out for six to nine months, so my guess is they'll have to go into the market. Isak hasn't played for a full season either, so the answer is they're going to have to. Who they go for I don't know, and how much they can spend we don't know, but Liverpool will have to go again, because this season's not been good enough for their own very high standards.
Injuries have not been the reason for Liverpool's poor season; every team has injuries. I would say it's more than the injuries as I think It's been many things. Clearly, their two big hitters in Van Dijk and Salah haven't been anywhere near the standard that we've seen in the past.
Their new signings, other than probably Ekitike, haven't worked as yet and you can say that with all of them. I mean, all of them played the other night. We haven't seen the best of any of them, perhaps other than Ekitike, which, when you consider the money that's been spent has partly been down to their demise this season. There are so many areas to improve on for Liverpool.
Jack Wilshere has made a brilliant start to his managerial career
Jack's had a really good start to his managerial career. I think they're only three points off the playoffs as well and they've got one trophy in the bag, so he's had a really good start. And it's good to see because you see so many England players, or top players want big jobs straight away, but not so many go down the leagues and do what he has done. So yeah, I hope he does well, and I hope he keeps up the good work.
Knighthood is on the horizon for Rory McIlroy after second Masters win
It was an unbelievable day on Sunday watching The Masters. I mean, there were so many ups and downs and twists and turns and everything else, but there always is the vast majority of the time. I mean, I didn't expect that on Friday evening, when they finished, and Rory was six clear. I guess, mentally, it's tough going into the Saturday, and he only shot one over, I think, on Saturday, and the chasing pack clawed it back because there were so many players who had good rounds.
Sunday was an unbelievable day, I mean, yeah, twists and turns, as you can imagine, and which only Augusta can produce. What a win for Rory. What a Golfer, what a player and what a sportsman.
He has to go down as a sporting great not just a golfing great. I watched his documentary and I think it's a really good documentary in terms of showing the pain that some athletes, top athletes have to go through. I think it also goes to show, it doesn't matter how much money you have, you still feel the pain of not being able to be successful. That for me stood out in terms of how much it means and how much hurt he had to go through to get to where he is now.
Rory's attitude tells you that he doesn't do it for the money. You can see that in the documentary. Year after year after year, he's turning up, and it's not happened for him, and yet that all changed last year. For him to come back again and say, I want more, I think that tells you the mindset of an elite athlete, and that's exactly what he is.
I don't think he'll be far away from a knighthood. I think he'll eventually get it because he's clearly going to keep on winning, and I think he'll clearly keep on winning majors. He's still got plenty of time left to go and just keep on dominating the sport, so the knighthood will come.
