Greening keen on Baggies stay

Jonathan Greening wants to stay at West Brom despite the club just missing out on promotion to the Premiership.

The Baggies 1-0 defeat to Derby in the Championship play-off final means that Greening and his team-mates will face another battle for promotion next season after Stephen Pearson's 61st-minute goal confined them to the second tier of English football.

In early trading the Baggies are on offer as 8.4 second favourites behind Charlton (7.8) to win the Championship next season and former Manchester United midfielder Greening wants to be part of the club's push for promotion.

"I would be happy to sign a new deal as long as the chairman and the manager want me," he said.

Rumours of a player exodus at the Hawthorns have been surfacing, with the likes of Curtis Davies, Jason Koumas and Diomansy Kamara linked with moves away from the West Midlands, but Greening is content to stay and play for a boss he rates highly.

He added: "Everyone likes playing for the manager Tony Mowbray, with the way he plays and the football he plays and it would suit me down to the ground."

Defender Paul Robinson is not so sure that he will follow Greening's lead and remain at the club as he has ambitions of playing at the highest level.

"I am signed up here for the next two years so I will get my head down and work hard," he admitted.

"But I want to play Premiership football and sometimes you can't take that away from players if the opportunity comes up."

Former Premiership sides Sheffield United (10.5 to win the Championship), Southampton (11.5), Wolves (11) and Watford (13.5) will provide West Brom with stiff competition next term and Greening will be hoping to avoid the lottery of the play-offs with a top-two finish.
