16:17, Naas - Hamiyan will relish longer trip

Hamiyan remains a maiden, but he's showed fairly useful form, and he's been crying out for this step up to a mile and a quarter.

His best effort came when runner-up to a useful sort over an extended mile at Galway last season and he wasn't far behind that level when fitted with first-time cheekpieces at Leopardstown last month.

Not for the first time, he ran as though the mile trip was the bare minimum for him, finishing never nearer than at the finish, and he can prove himself on a good mark now having his stamina stretched further.

17:00, Cork - O'Grady Cracker can progress further

O'Grady Cracker finished nearer last than first on his first four starts and, though he was well backed for his debut, he failed to justify that support.

He was given a break after his fourth start, though, and showed the benefit of that absence when returning with a much-improved display to open his account at Kilbeggan 10 days ago.

The switch to a first-time visor seemingly liberated him, kicking on soon after the second-last and powering clear on the run-in. He's clearly an improved horse now and a subsequent 10lb rise in the weights almost certainly underestimates him.

17:10, Nottingham - Venetian Lion ahead of his mark

Venetian Lion is bred to be smart, but wasn't really fancied in the betting on his first three starts, though he did show promise on debut before not building on it as expected the next two times.

However, he was much shorter in the betting for his handicap debut at Southwell last week, and he duly showed much improved form sporting a first-time tongue tie.

He ended up too far back on that occasion, but the work he did in the closing stages was particularly eye-catching, making up plenty of ground and leaving the impression he's on a good mark.

That run can be upgraded when taking sectionals into account, covering the last two furlongs faster than any of his rivals - he has the Sectional Flag as a result - and he looks particularly well treated turned out quickly from the same mark.
