Wednesday Horse Racing Tips and Insight

14:30, Queen Mary Stakes - Timeform: Back Senorita Bonita

Having met trouble, it was striking how much ground Senorita Bonita made up inside the final furlong to collar the reopposing Fast Track at Nottingham and she can take the step up in class in her stride.

Following her debut win, joint-trainer Simon Crisford said: "I think her turn of foot was exceptional. What pleased me the most was her temperament. I think she'll improve a lot mentally and physically and I think she's a filly with a great future ahead of her."

An expensive purchase at 900,000 guineas, Senorita Bonita is a daughter of Starspangledbanner, who won the Golden Jubilee Stakes here in 2010, while her unraced dam Belicious is related to several Group 2 winners (albeit over further), so she's bred to be very good.

As long as she can hang onto their coattails early then she should be coming home best of all; she is fancied to see off fellow 'Horses In Focus' Alta Regina, Wild Blossom and Kentucky Rain.

15:05, Queens' Vase - Mark Milligan: Back Point of Law

Point Of Law who could well have the most upside in the field. By Frankel and with a high-class Japanese pedigree on the dam's side, he's bred to be a good one and still looked rather green when getting off the mark at the second attempt last time at Newbury.

There could be plenty more to come from this one and I don't think he'll have any issues stepping up markedly in trip here.

15:40, Duke of Cambridge Stakes - Sam Turner: Back Snellen

Siding with horses that have already proved their mettle at this meeting can be a profitable exercise so to that end Snellen makes some appeal at a double figure price on her third excursion to the Royal meeting.

The daughter of Expert Eye made an encouraging return to action in Group 3 company at Leopardstown back in May, looking as though the run would bring her forward for this assignment.

A winner of the Chesham Stakes in 2024, Snellen was a gallant runner-up in the Kensington Palace Stakes last year when overhauled in the last 100 yards by Miss Information and it is interesting that connections engage last year's Queen Anne Stakes winning rider Mark Zahra to partner the five-year-old.

16:20, Prince of Wales's Stakes - Alan Dudman: Back Ombudsman

John and Thady Gosden's crack five-year-old will attempt to become the first horse in almost 30 years to win back-to-back POWs...

Ombudsman has gone through an identical prep for this with Sandown the pipe opener. He finished second at Sandown 12 months ago before his Prince Of Wales's win, but was a winner in a titanic battle across the Esher plains last time against the shiny new Wathnan toy Gethin, and Ombudsman had a proper race.

The scene at Ascot last year when beating Anmaat was not too dissimilar to the Fantastic Light victory, albeit with a bit more trouble, as William Buick had Ombudsman a long way off the pace and took an age to search for the gap. It did come, to the relief of the backers, and that brilliant 1m2f turn of foot is a serious weapon.

17:00, Royal Hunt Cup - Katie Midwinter: Back Holloway Boy each-way

Top weight Holloway Boy has Jack Nicholls easing his burden at the weights by 5lb as he attempts to go a few places better than when a good fifth in this race two years ago. The Royal Ascot winner was previously successful at this meeting as a juvenile, defying odds of 40/1 to win the Chesham Stakes on debut in a memorable performance.

Whilst he has won only twice since, at Group Three and Listed level respectively, he has often held his own in tough, competitive handicaps from a high weight, as well as at Stakes-level against some top class rivals. He was just denied a Group Two success by the talented Poker Face in Meydan last year, before finishing third to Romantic Warrior in a Group One contest.

On British Champions Day, Holloway Boy was narrowly beaten by Crown Of Oaks when rated 110 in the 20-runner field, and has since put in creditable efforts internationally including at Group One level behind Opera Ballo.

17:35, Kensington Palace Stakes - Sam Turner: Back Cheshire Dancer each-way

Three Ascot outings for Cheshire Dancer have yielded form figures of 431 and a recent spin over a trip in excess of her best at Haydockshould put her spot on for a repeat attempt on his prize.

Beaten a length and a quarter by the aforementioned Miss Information in this race 12 months ago, the selection lifted the Valiant Stakes last July on the round track, clocking an excellent speed figure in the process.

Billy Loughnane was in the plate that day and is back in the saddle for the first time since so, with trainer Hugo Palmer sure to have put a huge circle around this race from sometime out, Cheshire Dancer could outrun her odds for Michael Owen and colleagues.

18:10, Windsor Castle Stakes - Katie Midwinter: Back Dance A Jig EW

In the finale on Wednesday, the Windsor Castle Stakes for the juveniles, Ralph Beckett-trained Dance A Jig is an interesting maiden making his third start. Despite being yet to get off the mark, he has run well twice behind A Bear Affair and Adaay Of Scarlett, narrowly beaten on both occasions, including over 5f here and previously in the Brocklesby Stakes.

The Naval Crown colt steps up to 6f for the first time and is entitled to keep on improving as he has gained some valuable experience in two starts to date but remains unexposed. He's out of Strictly Dancing, a 6f winner with form over 7f, who has also produced Group Three winners in Dancing Star and Foxtrot Lady, as well as progressive filly Dance In The Storm, who won at Chester last month.

His maternal grand-dam is Nunthorpe Stakes winner Lochangel, therefore there's plenty of speed in the pedigree as well as class being from the family of dual Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp and Nunthorpe winner Lochsong. Dance A Jig may show significant improvement in this contest and shouldn't be discounted at a price. He has shaped with promise in two starts to date and it may be worth keeping the faith.
