Royal Ascot
mark has several fancies on wednesday

Horse Racing tipster Mark Milligan shares four selections on the second day of Royal Ascot 2026 including a nap in the day's feature race, the Prince of Wales' Stakes at 16:20...

Queen's Vase, 15:05, Royal Ascot - Back Point Of Law @ 7/18.00

It may only be June, but we could well get some valuable St Leger clues in what looks a stacked field for the Queen's Vase, with any number of the 11 runners having some sort of chance. I tipped up Galiyan when he got off the mark at Chester last time but I'm not convinced that performance entitles him to be favourite in here and I was looking to take him on this time around.

I had a good long look at Limestone, who brings a solid level into the race and also Wareeth who, either side of a poor Newmarket effort, has looked a young horse of some potential.

However, it's another lightly raced type in Point Of Law who could well have the most upside in the field. By Frankel and with a high-class Japanese pedigree on the dam's side, he's bred to be a good one and still looked rather green when getting off the mark at the second attempt last time at Newbury.

There could be plenty more to come from this one and I don't think he'll have any issues stepping up markedly in trip here.

Prince Of Wales's Stakes, 16:20, Royal Ascot - Back Daryz (NAP) @ 15/82.88

This looks the race of the meeting for me, with last year's winner Ombudsman taking on the 2025 Arc first and second, Daryz and Minnie Hauk.

Daryz only just scraped home from the Aidan O'Brien filly at Longchamp, but I suspect he's an improved model this year having already won a pair of Group 1s in France this year, while Minnie Hauk has a bit to prove after retuning lame last time.

This could well get tactical but Daryz has shown a new side to his game so far this season, producing a rapid turn of foot dropped to this 1m 2f trip on both starts and a fascinating battle could well ensue between him and Ombudsman.

The latter is a high-class horse and is rated just slightly above Daryz on official ratings, though Timeform have them the other way round, with Daryz on 132 and Ombudsman on 130, which for me is the correct order.

This is going to be a clash to savour, but I make Daryz my best bet of the day, if not the entire week.

Royal Hunt Cup, 17:00, Royal Ascot - Back Scoville @ 10/111.00

With 30 runners going to post for the Hunt Cup, it's always a puzzle trying to work out where the best draw may be and it could well pay to back one from each side.

Plenty has to be taken on trust when it comes to the William Haggas-trained Scoville as he hasn't fulfilled his potential whatsoever after making a stunning start to his career last summer, winning his first two starts, the latter by 14 lengths on Newmarket's July course.

However, it's been pretty much all disappointing since then, including on his comeback in a conditions race at Thirsk, where Scoville pulled too hard and finished last of eight.

There are reasons for thinking he can still get his career back on track, though, a breathing operation since that disappointing Thirsk run being one and the tongue tie also goes back on for this assignment. The selection should also benefit from the strong pace he'll get in this field and I would expect him to settle much better this time.

Royal Hunt Cup, 17:00, Royal Ascot - Back Erzindjan @ 11/112.00

Erzindjan feels a little less risky than Scoville and he's a solid performer who has looked as though he was up to winning a big pot on several occasions over the last year or so.

He posted some solid efforts in defeat several times last season, including when fourth in the Cambridgeshire and he made a winning comeback over the same C&D last month, overcoming something of a pace bias in the process.

Although only winning by half a length, Erzindjan was value for more than that and the booking of Ryan Moore here really takes the eye.

A confirmed hold-up performer, the selection is another who should benefit from the strong gallop that this race looks sure to produce and his draw in stall 24 gives us another string to our bow having already sided with Scoville from a single-figure stall.

Mark Milligan's Day 2 Royal Ascot double

Betfair is offering Bet £10 Get £10 on Racing Multis each day of Royal Ascot, and the multi that makes the most appeal is a win double using Point Of Law and Daryz. I've made cases for both above and the double pays a handsome 22/123.00 should they both go in.
