Kelso's Monday action is the focus for today's multiple

Alan Dudman likes the look of two Lucinda Russell mares for Monday's double at Kelso...

Kelso - 14:00: Back Dollar Collar

With Newmarket's Craven meeting underway tomorrow, three days of the good stuff awaits for the first big shindig of the Flat season

Kelso's card on Monday is a bit of a marathon with eight races and hopefully we can squeeze out a profit from today's offering going into HQ, as nothing appealed to me for the Flat cards at Windsor and Redcar.

Lucinda Russell's Dollar Collar is taken here to beat the odds-on favourite for Olly Murphy in Alnilam, and one of my punting methods is to avoid Murphy's short prices as they tend to go off too short.

Dollar Collar has only had a couple of starts and she shaped well on her debut at Ayr in February finished second to I Am Max, a horse who had experience and previously had won a bumper by a big margin. The third Two Auld Pals has boosted the form and scored since too.

She got outpaced there and made no mistake at Hexham on her following start with a convincing win over a Don McCain short one with the third a massive 40L.

There's no doubt she'll be going up in distance to 2m4f+ in the future, so the step up to 2m2f here today can be viewed as a positive as she kept on strongly at Hexham.

At 15/82.88 it's hardly a wild price, but this lacks depth Russell's horses at Kelso this term has again been good in terms of numbers as the leading trainer with 14.

Kelso - 16:30: Back Spit Spot

Russell again appears for the second selection and I will be disappointed if the trainer doesn't come away with a winner this afternoon and Spit Spot at 7/24.50 has a chance to convert one of her seconds into a win.

She's lightly-raced in terms of handicapping with just one start in that sphere and ran well enough beaten 10L behind Sunday Soldier at Doncaster. Her jumping wasn't totally fluent and she was outpaced there too, so the step up to 2m2f will suit her, much like the first selection.

Her seconds at Wetherby and Newcastle earlier in the season were both in testing conditions, so the ground shouldn't be too much of an issue and she's on a fair mark given her rating on the Flat.

She's by Sir Percy, the underrated Lanwades stalwart and given his stock stay so well, the extra yardage will at least suit her.
